SOUTHPORT — The 16-team Marion County Tournament was simply a matter of formality. It went from being the Marion County Tourney to the MIC Invitational (semifinals) to the Lawrence Township Championship. No.1 Lawrence North will play No.3 Lawrence Central tonight for all of the marbles.

Lawrence North sprinted through Ben Davis 73-60 and didn’t have to play their horses much in the second half. By mid-way through the third quarter coach Frank Keefer started sitting boyz for the ultimate rematch on Saturday night even before Lawrence Central had even played Pike in the other semifinal. Both DJ Hughes and Tony Perkins put on a show as they played like a team already setting their sights on a state championship.

Perkins, who finished with 16 points, was destroying boyz with massive dunks making sure that he kept his opponent from playing with any confidence at all. Defensively, LN was suffocating. They were just throwing Ben Davis’ shots into the second and third rows all night. I’ve never seen anything like it. They’ve got to be the most confident team I’ve seen in years.

The reserves were playing with the same swag as the starters!!!! Cats like Omar Cooper Jr., who’s only a sophomore, lit the place up like a Christmas tree with several dunks including a nasty break away windmill. They are definitely a problem for boyz in 2020 playa.

In Game 2 Lawrence Central blew past Pike like a Learjet 70-55. D’Andre Davis and Nijel Pack didn’t waste any time letting boyz know what time it was. They jumped out of the ride and left it running because this wasn’t going to take long. As soon as the driver door opened Pack came out shootin’ that thang finishing with 21 points. Davis came out of the passenger side to hit them up for 23. LC had some additional problems coming out of the trunk that Pike just couldn’t handle.

Not only were their stars balling but the whole squad kept jumping out of the ride handling their business. If you aren’t over at Southport tonight you aren’t a high school basketball fan.
