For 109 days everybody and their Uncle LeRoy has been sitting in the cut waiting for the media hound known as Jerry Jones to get in front of the cameras and hold court. He’s been somewhere under a rock since all of the social unrest in America has popped off with the murder of George Floyd.
The Black Lives Matter movement is in full effect with everybody protesting to make the world aware of what black folks have been dealing with for 401 years in America. The NBA restart has the movement front and center with players not only kneeling but wearing “Equality, Justice, Black Lives Matter and a host of other meaningful slogans” on the backs of their jerseys along with Black Lives Matter written on the playing surface.
So where has Jerry Jones been and what does he have to say about players kneeling in 2020? In 2017 he was adamant about players not kneeling because he was on this “It disrespects the flag” foolishness completely changing the narrative. Even though he knew that the protest was against police brutality, racial and social injustice. Back then he was the dictator telling players “toes on the line.”
On Wednesday he was on some “That was then, this is now. We’re going to have grace.” So what does grace look like playa? Explain to folks what you mean. Then he literally starts talking like Charlie Brown’s teacher butt naked foaming at the mouth saying absolutely nothing talking in circles.
“We’re going to show grace. I’m going to show grace. And I’d like to show that kind of grace on a sensitive matter. Everybody is genuine here. I’m giving everyone the benefit of the doubt relative to any decision that I make. I have one thing: My job is to run the Dallas Cowboys. My job is to do what’s right. We’ve asked for all of this interest and we’ve asked for our players to give everything they’ve got.“
He goes on to say, “So I want to sit down when I have an issue. I have a decision to make. I want to show the world that I can do it with grace and come up with the right solution. I don’t know what we’re going to be faced with here a month from now or two months from now. … Our players have always been open-eared for anything that I have to offer and I’ve been open-eared for what they have to offer, and that’s what we’ll do.”
WHAT!!!? That dun didn’t say a word. He may as well have told us to look at my right hand while he’s going into folks pockets with the left. Problem is, you can’t hustle folks that understand who you are.
Jerry is full of it and I hope that some veteran player with enough bread to call his bluff, kneels during the national anthem. I would love to see how he handles it because that speech he just rattled off was foolishness.
“We’re going to show grace.” Showing grace is understanding that Black Lives Matter and that folks are sick and tired of being sick and tired of the police killing their family and friends. Speak on that playa and put your money where your mouth is! Stop me when I start lyin’!
“Am I interested in what any player, what any of our media, am I interested in what everybody has to say about any issue? You bet,” Jones said. “And I have rabbit ears. I really do. Having said that, I am listening. The point is, we will do it in a way we think is sensitive and has as much grace for the genuine feelings of everybody in mind.”
