Imaging how lit Bloomington would be this week with the Hoosiers ranked No.13 without a pandemic! “Flame Room”

In my Gomer Pyle voice, “SURPRISE! SURPRISE!” The Indiana Hoosiers are ranked No.13 in the country!!! The last time the Hoosiers were ranked that high was back on October 31, 1987!!! I was a junior at IU and boy was it a good time! Earlier in the season the Hoosiers knocked off Michigan at the crib in the rain. I can remember it like it was yesterday.

One of my homeboys, Erick Campbell, was playing for Michigan and my roommate and I, Lil’ Gobe, both from G.I. were trying to get into the game but had no tickets. Well…one of our friends on the IU team forgot to put us on the Will Call list. That’s another story altogether. So we used our G.I. instincts to talk our way in.

Standing in front of Memorial Stadium trying to get tickets at a reasonable price. We were college kids with no money. Therefore, we started telling our story of not being able to see our homeboy “Erock” play. Some cat rolled up on us and said “Hey fellas! You want these tickets?” We said “Yeah! How much?” Ole boy said, “You can have them!” WHAT!!!?

They were on the fifty yard line and about 20 rows up. PERFECT SEATS!! It rained the entire game but the Hoosiers won the game. We stormed the field and tore the goal post down and ran out of the stadium with it.

There were about 50 of us running up 17th Street with the entire goal post. However, it started to get heavy and we all started asking, “Where are we going with this bruh?” By the time we got up to the corner of Fee Lane and 17th at Brisco we were exhausted. We dropped it and went to the crib and partied all night.

That was one of the greatest moments of my college experience besides pledging and partying in the Flame Room in McNutt. Oh yeah, Lil’ 500 picnics and stepping in Alumni Hall go right to the top too. Yeah and road tripping to Indiana State and partying with the GOMAB’s.

My point here is this, I feel bad for the current students in Bloomington because this is one of the rare moments the IU football team is going to be good and they can’t kick it like they would like to. IU’s not Alabama or Oklahoma or Michigan or Clemson. This isn’t going to be a normal occurrence. It’s IU for crying out loud. It happens every 30 years!!!

The Hoosiers ranked No.13 in the country with Michigan rolling in limping. Bloomington would be on fire right now with students and alumni like myself in town gettin’ it in!!!! Man could you imagine how lit Kirkwood would be this week if there wasn’t a pandemic going on?

GO HOOSIERS!!!!
