The entire country has now been blessed to see what the folks in Indianapolis saw coming three or four years ago. The Incomparable David Bell at Purdue. I started calling him that after a saw him play for the first time on the FAR EAST SIDE at Warren Central in the fall of 2017. The reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year has picked up where he left off last year. Clownin’ boyz with the full suit and the water spittin’ flower.

He finished his freshman season with 86 receptions for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns just to put boyz on notice. He’s already started the 2020 season on fire in just two games catching 22 balls for 243 yards and four touchdowns and we haven’t even finished cooking the ribs yet playa.

He destroyed Iowa last week with 13 catches for 121 yards and 3 touchdowns and put a stop to Illinois even thinking they could compete when he dropped off 9 catches for 122 yards and a touchdown on Saturday. He’s very much the first round draft pick I said he was the first time I layed eyes on him as a sophomore in high school shooting hoop.

After covering only the Indiana Pacers for six years. Boyz started telling me that I needed to cover local high school football and basketball. Cats starting getting into my ear with “Jay you’re missing out bruh.” One of my homeboys told me straight up, “There’s a kid at Warren Central that you need to check out. He’s hoopin’ right now but he plays football too.”

At that time Bell was just a sophomore. As I sat and watched him move up and down the floor it occurred to me that he was the best athlete in the building and probably one of the best athletes I’d seen in years. I said in amazement, “this dun plays football too?”

Fast forward to the first game of the following football season of 2017. First play from scrimmage ole boy caught a bubble screen and went the distance. It was at least 65 yards in and out of traffic. I turned to the camera guy filming next to me and said, “He’s a pro bruh! No question about it. They don’t make ‘um like that very often. I don’t need to see any more.”

But I did though, for the remainder of that season and the following. He was so good that it became addicting to watch. I’d never seen a kid with that type of balance and body control playing any sport in high school. It was NUTS!!

As a junior he caught 52 passes for 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns. His senior year he caught 85 passes for 1,542 yards and 22 touchdowns and was named the Marion County Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the Year by the Indy Star. He was named a USA-Today All-America, an Army All-America and whatever else All-America you could name him. He was the freakin’ man.

Oh did I mention that not only did he show out on the football field leading his team to an undefeated Class 6A state title his senior year but he led them to an undefeated 32-0 Class 4A State title in hoop his junior year. That’s in INDIANA! Not Ohio, Alabama, Florida or Texas etc. In INDIANA!! Where the best hoopers in the country live playa. That’s how good he was with the round ball.

Ole boy took the final possession coast to coast against first round draft pick of the Boston Celtics Romeo Langford’s squad to hit the game winner at the buzzer to advance to the state title game. That’s David Bell bruh!!!

What everybody else in America is watching right now is what those of us in Indianapolis already saw in the crystal ball years ago. Purdue fans better enjoy him now because he’ll only be there until the end of next season and that’s only because the rule says that he’s got to stay three years.

The Incomparable David Bell ladies and gentlemen!!!
