The Class 6A Sectionals kicked off on Friday night and everybody and their Uncle LeRoy and Cousin Man-Man were sitting on the edge of their seats to see it. The best conference in the state proved once again why they are known as the best conference in the state. Do I really have to say the M.I.C. when having these conversations?

The defending Class 6A state champs No.6 Carmel (8-2) let it be known that they are the champs until somebody knocks them off in the playoffs playa! Sure, No.1 Center Grove put that thang on them during the regular season besting them 42-0 but they are recharged and ready to play. Their quest to defend that title started at home in Sectional 5 against Pike (3-7) as they kept them at bay winning 38-22.

Quarterback Zach Osborne showed out like Big Momma used to say. He rushed for 141 yards and scored three touchdowns. The Greyhounds are on a 7 game winning streak and growling like a junkyard dog.

Ben Davis (5-5) who struggled out of the gate this season seems to have put things together at the right moment. They came into the sectionals on a two game winning streak with quarterback J’uan Swanson on fire!!! They went down to Southport and took care of all the business beating them 54-14 to advance to the sectional championship next week. Swanson threw 5 first half touchdowns to blow this one wide open.

In an unusual season where the Warren Central Warriors aren’t running things the pride of the Far East Side still showed up. After winning only three games this season WC came through on Friday night and knocked off North Central 20-17 to advance.

Down 10 points with less than 7 minutes to play and without their starting quarterback, Prince Powell, who was injured in the first half. It looked bad for WC. However, sophomore quarterback, Daniel Tippit, showed all kinds of poise throwing two touchdown passes, one to Khalil Howard and the other to Terez Reid. The Warriors walked out of the joint with the win.

In Sectional 8 No.1 Center Grove (10-0) did to Columbus North what they’ve been doing to boyz all season. Blasting them 42-7! Can you say the word “Consistent?”

Led by quarterback Tayven Jackson as he went 15-of-16 for 264 yards in the air with a 22-yard touchdown to Connor Delp. He also ran for two more touchdowns. NUTS!!!

Finally in Sectional 7 No.9 Lawrence North (7-3) routed arch rival Lawrence Central (0-10) 52-19 led by quarterback Donaven McCulley.  Just two minutes into the game McCulley hit standout receiver Omar Cooper for a 74-yards touchdown and it was Chris Brown for the rest of the night. “On and Poppin’!”

Cooper, in my momma’s voice, “showed out” scoring a total of three touchdowns, two receiving and he returned a punt. He proves every night why he’s such a sought after recruit. Amazing skills on this kid.

Yessir!!! It should be fun to watch the rest of the way!
