Deion Sanders to take over as head coach at HBCU Jackson State! “JSU Goes Primetime”

The rumors that Hall of Fame cornerback and multiple Super Bowl Champion Deion Sanders will become the next head football coach at Jackson State have been confirmed. Sunday on his first podcast on “21st & Prime” Sanders said, “God called me to Jackson State!”

According to the Clarion Ledger transcript, Jackson State athletic director, Ashley Robinson, had this to say on the podcast. “It’s very big for Jackson State University. Not only for Jackson State University, this is very big for the country right now. Very big for the state of Mississippi. To Coach Prime, Jackson State University — a blue blood program full of Hall of Famers — it’s just a great time.”

Jackson State’s acting president Thomas Hudson said on the podcast that the move was a result of the “grace of God” and the history of Jackson State football, according to the Clarion Ledger.

This move is clearly an act of faith because Sanders doesn’t have any head coaching experience or for that matter, college football coaching experience. He’s currently the offensive coordinator at Trinity Christian School in Cedar Hill, Texas.

JSU’s fall season has been postponed until the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The SWAC (Southwestern Athletic Conference) will kickoff next spring.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! I get that JSU needs a shot in the arm because everybody connected to the university wants a winner. They haven’t had a winning season since 2013.

Primetime replaces John Hendrick who was 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the SWAC. However, Deion has never even been a head coach. He’s not even the head guy at the high school where he’s currently coaching.

JSU will make the formal announcement on Monday at 9am to introduce Sanders as their man. However, he won’t take over immediately because he wants to finish out his season at Trinity Christian.

Well…if the season starts in the spring why isn’t he boots on the ground on Monday trying to figure out what he’s got to work with and starting the process. There’s also the question of recruiting and personnel. Those things just don’t happen over night.

It takes time and effort to build a program from the ashes and finishing his high school season shouldn’t be a priority if he’s willing to take the job today. JSU fans want him NOW!!!!

I know that everybody’s excited at JSU right now but this is football and there are a ton of moving parts that have to be put in place and it’s even more difficult when the head coach isn’t there. C’mon Prime get on the ground running today!!!

One thing is for certain and two is for sure. Students and alumni are excited about him becoming their head coach. They’re going to sell a lot of tickets with this excitement. He could do an outstanding job of recruiting because kids would definitely want to learn from Primetime. I hope it works out for the Tigers and it’s going to be fun to watch.
