Colts hit a home run with their picks in the 2nd and 3rd round! “Ballard’s doin’ the Darn Thing”

Colts draft Michael Pittman Jr. (USC), Jonathon Taylor (Wisconsin) and Julian Blackmon (Utah) in last night's NFL Draft.

INDIANAPOLIS — In the offseason of 2017 Chris Ballard took over as the Colts General Manager to clean up the mess Ryan Grigson created. That dun was HORRIBLE!!! In 2018 Ballard was named Executive of the Year by the Pro Football Writers Association for the work he’d done.

The No.1 priority was to shore up the offensive line that darn near got Andrew Luck killed that forced him into retirement and now he’s putting in work to make their offense purr. After signing Phillip Rivers this offseason he did work on Friday night in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the NFL Draft by getting some great weapons!!!

In the 2nd round the Colts had two draft picks and they literally hit home runs with both of them. With the 2nd pick of the second round which is the 34th pick overall they swooped up Michael Pittman Jr, wide receiver from USC. Ole boy is huge!!! He’s 6’4″ 224 lbs and can go.

The Colts have never had a big body receiver like that. He’ll be a great addition to T.Y. Hilton and Zach Pascal on the outside. Last year Indianapolis’ receiving corp ranked 28th in receptions with 150 and 30th in receiving yards with 1,841. Now a lot of that was due to them not having a dun that could get them the ball. Let’s be clear. Injuries etc.

However, Philip Rivers excelled with big-bodied receivers while with the Chargers. So hopefully he can find a rhythm with this new addition to the receiving corp and the small speed merchants in Hilton and Pascal.

Then with the 9th pick of the 2nd round and 41st overall they hit the jackpot with Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor at running back. Let’s be clear playas…Jonathan Taylor was the best running back in America for the past couple of seasons in college and it wasn’t even close. He’ll be a great addition to the running back room with Marlon Mack putting in work.

I can see them being extremely productive as a one-two punch that drives defenses crazy. Can you see these cats running behind left guard Quenton Nelson? It’s going to be NUTS!!!!! In my Bart Scott voice, “Can’t Wait!”

They picked up Julian Blackmon out of Utah at safety in the 3rd round with the 21st pick and 85th pick overall. At 6’0″ 187 lbs he has enough range to cover a deep half and has proven that he can get the job done. He’ll be in a battle with safeties Malik Hooker and Khari Willis.

Ole boy will get some run in split-safety looks initially if he’s ready to compete at the next level. Overall the Colts did well with their first three picks. Stop me when I start lyin’!

  1. Pittman is the real deal. I am a USC fan but a Miami Dolphin fan also. I do not know why we passed on him. The Colts did a great job and definitely got a good one.
