Colts finish 7-9: Injuries, lack of depth and suspect quarterback play to blame! Ballard has his hands full this offseason.

Now that the 2019 NFL regular season is in the books we can reflect on how and why the Colts didn’t make the playoffs. Even though Andrew Luck threw a grenade into the locker room announcing his retirement just two weeks before the season started. There was still hope that they would make the playoffs without him. Why? Because they had the talent to do so.

However, after finishing the season losing six of seven games and missing the playoffs for the fourth time in five seasons we’ve got some explaining to do right? Well…it’s simple. Injuries took over on a team that had very little depth and their quarterback literally wet the bed down the stretch.

We’ll talk about Jacby Brissett in a minute. Indianapolis came out of the gate after the Luck retirement announcement looking like some soldiers ready to get it in winning 5 of their first 7 games including wins over Kansas City and Houston.

Then the injuries started to pile up. They loss Eric Ebron for the season after playing 11 games. Devin Funchess barely saw the field while T.Y. Hilton and Paris Campbell missed several games.

Darius Leonard, Kenny Moore, Pierre Desir and Malik Hooker on the defensive side of the ball all missed three games apiece and there wasn’t enough depth to sustain those losses.

After Luck threw in the toil the Colts tried to make it right by paying Jacoby Brissett his bread. You can’t name a man the starter at the most critical position on the field without paying him right? So they threw the bag at him on a 2-year deal worth $30 million. Completely fair right?

However, you’ve got to live up to the bread given. Well playas…Brissett seemed to slip on the banana peal going backwards forcing the Colts, in my opinion, to have to look for another quarterback just in case he keeps falling apart. It should be an interesting offseason for general manager Chris Ballard. Stop me when I start lyin’!
