Now that the real college football season has started this month we can really start talking about who the best teams in the country are. Those pre-season rankings mean absolutely nothing because they are based off of hype from the previous year. So when the season starts and Clemson and Alabama are ranked No.’s 1 and 2 right out of the gate. You have to take it with a grain of salt.
Now that we’ve just completed Week 7. We can legitimately say who the best teams in America are right now. From what I’ve seen LSU is by far the best team in the country. Why? Because they’ve finally found a quarterback that can stretch the field. Joe Burrow is the real deal and after he dismantled, the then undefeated, Florida Gators at Death Valley on Saturday night you can’t convince me otherwise.
Yeah, I know that Clemson is still undefeated and they are the defending national champs but they don’t look better than several teams right now. So if you want to keep them at No.1 based off of last year then you’ve just loss me. I know that a few weeks ago I said that they should be No.1 because they won the title last year and they’re still undefeated. Well throw that logic out of the window now because we’ve gone through Week 7 and we’ve watched a lot of football. You can’t justify having them at No.1 No way.
At No.2 Oklahoma should be sitting right behind them because Jalen Hurts and Co. are probably better than OU’s offenses under the direction of both Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. The only difference now is that they’ve got a defense that looks to have turned the corner. Did you see them against Texas in the Red River Showdown? They had 9 sacks on Sam Ehlinger. If that defense holds up all season and slightly gets better than they were in Dallas on Saturday it’s going to be a problem for everyone else.
Alabama should be ranked No.3 and then Ohio State at No.4. As a matter of fact, they might even be playing better than Alabama right now. However, the Buckeyes haven’t been tested yet. Michigan State isn’t worth two dead flies smashed so don’t even try to bring them up as a formidable opponent for them.
The Buckeyes won’t get tested until the end of the month when Wisconsin comes to town. Then Clemson at No.5 playa. That’s just real talk.
These are the Top 4 right now!!! 1) LSU 2) Oklahoma 3) Alabama 4) Ohio State. It’ll change weekly depending upon who does what. Georgia wet the bed at the crib against ole dull South Carolina at home of all places. They won’t get back into the mix unless they can run the table and beat Alabama in the SEC title game. However, they’ve still got Florida looming in the background. So they’re season might be all but over.
