Alabama ranked 5th ahead of other power 5 undefeated teams after loss to unranked opponent. Ridiculous!

Every year we’re having the same conversation about the bogus rankings early on in the college football season. The problem starts with the preseason rankings. Once they are put together, all the top ranked teams have to do is keep from losing two games. However, the lower ranked teams have to run the table in order to get even close to the Top 4 by season’s end. It’s ridiculous.

Why not wait until we’ve seen at least a month of football before ranking the teams. Yes, I know that the College Football Playoff rankings don’t come out until October but they are heavily influenced by the AP Poll. Stop it.

Over the weekend No.1 Alabama got popped by unranked and two loss Texas A&M. However, when the polls came out on Sunday they were still ranked in the Top 5 at 5th behind No.1 Georgia, No.2 Iowa, No.3 Cincinnati and No.4 Oklahoma all unbeaten teams. But what’s crazy is that they were still ranked ahead of unbeaten Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky and Oklahoma State. All Power 5 schools.

If the wins and the losses don’t count why are we playing the games or the entire season? Sure, do I believe that Alabama is better than all of those teams? Absolutely! However, the wins and losses have to count and until those teams eventually lose. They should be ranked ahead of Alabama. At least for now.

This is the foolishness that I keep talking about. Bama is never out of it unless they drop two games. However, if any of those other teams lose at least one game they’re out altogether. That’s bogus! Let Oklahoma or Michigan lose to an unranked team. They would be out of the Top 10 immediately. Here’s what the ranking should be today:

JGR Poll

  1. Georgia 6-0

2. Iowa 6-0

3. Cincy 6-0

4. Oklahoma 6-0

5. Michigan 6-0

6. Michigan State 6-0

7. Kentucky 6-0

8. Oklahoma State 6-0

9. Alabama 5-1

10. Ohio State 5-1
