Everybody’s excited that the New England Patriots have signed Cam Newton to help replace Tom Brady as their starting quarterback. Well…everybody but me. I’m happy that the former No. 1 overall selection in the 2011 draft has been signed but they disrespected him. They signed him to only a 1-year deal that was incentive-laden. That means that they weren’t willing to pay him. He’s got to hit all types of incentives to make any real money.
Yeah I know that the dun has been battling injuries having shoulder surgery and then the foot surgery. However, in May he passed the physical and is ready to go. He’s put in the work to rehab and now he’s prepared to do work on the field.
Just five year ago he was the NFL’s MVP as he took the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl. Now he can’t even get a respectable contract when backups like Chase Daniels just signed a 3 year deal worth $13.5 million with the Bears and Case Keenum signs a 3 year deal worth $18 million with the Redskins. Give me a break!!!
Those guys aren’t even going to see the field and they’ve got better deals than Cam. It’s ridiculous.
I know that you can’t give him a major deal but his talent alone makes room for a better deal than some backup cats. Stop me when I start lyin’!
