BYU is the reason that Cincinnati won’t play for a national title even if they run the table! “1984”

Everybody and their cousin Ralph has been screaming that Cincinnati is getting screwed. The word is, they aren’t getting a fair shot at playing for the national title and folks are irate about it. Well folks…they haven’t played but one game all season and that’s just not enough to lay claim to being a Top 4 team to get into the College Football Playoff.

When you’re playing in the American Athletic Conference you’ve got absolutely nothing to say to the Power 5 teams that are playing real football teams every week.

There’s a reason why nobody is putting their reputation on the line to give Cincy a shot. Those of us that are old enough to remember have seen this tragic movie before and we don’t want to see it ever again.

In 1984 BYU ran the table competing in the Western Athletic Conference playing a garbage schedule. They literally played one game all season. They beat then No.3 Pittsburgh to start the season and would eventually run the table.

They beat Baylor (one of the worst programs in America at the time), Tulsa, Hawaii, Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico, UTEP, San Diego State, Utah and Utah State. They then defeated a horrible 5-6 Michigan team in the Holiday Bowl and was subsequently named the National Champion. OUTRAGEOUS!!!

It was a total disgrace and black eye on the sport and nobody is ready to allow that to happen again. All of the powerhouse teams that played some serious competition at the time had to take a backseat to a team that cut the line.

Guys like Washington, Florida, Nebraska, Boston College, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, UCLA and USC rounded out the Top 10. Any of those teams would have beaten the total breaks off of BYU by halftime.

No way my friends!!! Cincinnati isn’t getting their hands on a national title not in this lifetime. The only way they do is if they join a Power 5 Conference and prove it on the field week in and out.

Otherwise, we’ll keep hearing their fans howling about it not being fair while they tip toe through a cotton candy schedule every year. There is no easy way to the national title. If you want to compete for one then you’ve got to earn it. Step your game up and play with the big boys every week. Stop me when I start lyin’!
