As we gear up for the 2021-2022 NBA season the Golden State Warriors are dealing with the fact that swingman, Andrew Wiggins, hasn’t and won’t get vaccinated. Up to this point he’s decided against the vaccine and that puts his availability for the start of the season in jeopardy.
Here’s the problem. As of Aug. 20, the city of San Francisco has required proof of vaccination for large indoor events. Well…if Wiggins is playing in the NBA and he’s planning to shoot hoop for the Warriors in San Francisco he’s going to need a vaccination and proof of it. That’s at least 41 games he won’t be getting paid for. That’s half of his annual salary.
Saying no to that puts him and the team in a pickle. Back on March 22 when asked about getting the shot this was his response.
“To each his own, really. Whoever wants to get it, can get it; whoever doesn’t want to get it, don’t get it. Right now, I’m not getting it, but it’s no knock on anyone else that’s getting it. I make my own decisions. But right now, I decided not to get it.”
At the time he said that he was waiting on more information. Well playas…I’m not sure how much more information he needs on the vaccine at this point. It’s now become the most studied drug ever. More than 600 billion shots have been given worldwide and more that 300 million people have been fully vaccinated around the world. They are studying the crap out of the drug in every population and every circumstance.
The numbers don’t lie!!! The emergency rooms, hospitals and morgues around the country are filled with unvaccinated people at this point. I’m not sure what more information people need. The unvaccinated are suffering at alarming rates. The latest numbers say that 99% of folks in the hospital on ventilators and dying are unvaccinated. What else do you need to know.
I guess Wiggins is going to have to lose a ton of bread this season before he understands that it just makes sense to protect not only himself but others from COVID-19 by ultimately getting vaccinated. I just pray that he and others thinking like him don’t get sick in the process. Stop me when I start lyin’!
