According to the numbers: The Class 6A title game is just a matter of formality! Center Grove’s too deep and too good! “Ship the Trophy”

This time last year the Center Grove Trojans were about to wrestle with the Carmel Greyhounds for all of the Class 6A marbles down at Lucas Oil. When the smoke finally cleared they were walking out of the joint with a 20-17 loss to their conference foe and chomping at the bit to avenge that loss.

Fast forward during the difficulties of a global pandemic. The Trojans (13-0) are back at Lucas Oil again tonight ready to blow the doors, transmission and back seats off of Westfield (12-1). Not taking any no’s for answers, tonight is literally a matter of formality. According to the numbers playa, you can ship the trophy down to Greenwood this morning.

The IHSAA tried something new by making Carmel play down here this year instead of going north and now w’eve got a problem Houston. We’ve got a Class 6A title game with only one team from the M.I.C. Sure, it’s fair to give the cats from up north a chance to compete for a title but it also gives them a chance to get blown out of the joint. Merrillville got blasted last week by Westfield and now we’ve got this. Unless there are two teams in the title game from the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference, it isn’t worth playing the game. That’s just real talk because anybody from the M.I.C. that makes it to that game is blasting any outsiders.

Remember when Penn showed up in 2017 after only giving up 10 points a game and got their doors, windows, tires and transmission blown off of them by Ben Davis 63-14? Everybody and their baby’s momma knew that Warren Central should have been playing in that game. However, they had No.1 Ben Davis play No.2 Warren Central play in the Sectionals that year? Remember that foolishness?

Since the year 2000 do you realize that 18 of the largest class state champions have come out of the M.I.C.? Eighteen!!! The only two titles that haven’t been won by someone from that conference was Penn in 2000 and Fishers in 2010.

Unless Center Grove decides not to get on the bus tonight Westfield doesn’t have a chance in this one. First of all, the Trojans have plowed through their 2020 schedule like a dull knife going through hot butter.

They’ve outscored their non–conference opponents 170 to 41. They were even better playing against the best teams in the state from the M.I.C. They outscored them 406 to 39!!! That’s against the M.I.C.!!!! Are you kidding me?

I’ve got a doctor’s note for Westfield if they would like it because this could get ugly really fast.

With the combination of Daniel Weems and Carson Steele running the rock and Tayven Jackson at quarterback it’s going to be a problem. Then that front four for Center Grove is NUTS!!! I haven’t seen one better.

I know folks don’t want to see two M.I.C. teams always playing for the Class 6A title but that’s the only option if you want to see a competitive game. Go ahead and ship the trophy down to Greenwood this morning. As a matter of fact, just drive it over there right now. Stop me when I start lyin’!
