M.I.C. Principals vote to remove Carmel and Center Grove for plotting. “Reality of Life”

Big Momma always said, “Don’t hang out with folks that don’t want to hang out with you. Once they start plotting against you they can’t be trusted.”

On Monday the principals in the MIC (Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference) voted unanimously to remove Carmel and Center Grove from their league.

In a letter written by the remaining principals in the conference, the reason as to why they voted the two schools out was revealed.

“This past fall it came to our attention that for athletic reasons, as well as a desire to “culturally align” (as reported in the media) with surrounding suburban schools, Carmel and Center Grove were seeking placement in a different conference. We value the historical relationships with these two communities, and while this news was sad to those of us who understand the rich history, we also understand that these two schools no longer share the vision that we are more than an athletic conference, that athletics should not drive our decisions, and that our unique characteristics are what make us strong. This vote will allow these two schools to seek a conference that aligns with their visions.”

So we’re not about to act like we didn’t all read the phrase “as well as a desire to “culturally align” with surrounding suburban schools.” That, in an of itself, is a slap in the face and was the motivator to immediately remove them from the conference. You know what that means as well as I do so we’ll do what we’ve always done in this country, become the bigger people and move forward.

If Carmel and Center Grove don’t want to play in the sand box or swim in the pool with the kids from the city anymore. Let them go. The kids from the city will survive without them because they’ve always done so. Their success is not contingent upon being affiliated with Carmel and Center Grove.

The MIC will continue to win state titles and send kids to college on scholarship both on and off of the field. Why? Because they’ve always done so. They’ll continue to thrive because it’s in their nature to do so.

The MIC will continue to be the MIC and I can’t wait to see how they respond. This was simply a reminder of the reality of life.
