THE FAR EAST SIDE — Before we completely turn the page on Warren Central and move on to the Sectional 10 Champs, Lawrence Central, this week. I would like to spend some time today reflecting on the blessing it’s been to cover Warren Central football and basketball for the past several years primarily because of a special kid.

I’ve got to give crazy love/props to The Incomparable David Bell. Not only has he been an All-State basketball player in both sports but he’s an Army All-American that led both the football and basketball teams to undefeated state championships over the past year. I could spend time giving you all of his stats, numbers and accolades but why? You’ve seen them a million times over.

He’s by far the best athlete in the state and everybody knows it. He was one of the most sought after recruits in America but he decided to stay close to home so that his family could see him play. Therefore, he’s headed to Purdue to continue the process.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! I’ve been covering the Indiana Pacers since 2010, I covered the Colts for a couple of seasons and I’ve been covering college football for 4 or 5 years. David Bell is one of the most professional athletes I’ve had the chance to cover. I’ve interviewed everybody from Kobe to LeBron and everybody in between and David Bell handles himself like he belongs on the professional level. I’m not saying that he’s a pro yet but he’s got pro tendencies.

Most players at the high school and even college level don’t handle themselves as well as David does. It’s a credit to his folks. They’ve raised him with the expectation of being great. Therefore, he carries himself like he belongs in the greatness category. Give props to Coach West, Coach Beyers and Co. at Warren Central for nurturing his talent and not holding him back at all.

Some high school coaches tend to hold kid’s progression up because they’re underclassmen and won’t play them until some senior graduates. Not at Warren bruh and not with David Bell. They played him right away because they saw the talent and allowed him to do his thing.

Again, I just wanted to say how awesome it’s been to see the development of such a special student-athlete and I can’t wait to cover him at Purdue. Ain’t God good? ALL OF THE TIME. The Incomparable David Bell has been a great example for the young folks not only on THE FAR EAST SIDE but in every neighborhood in the state of Indiana. Stop me when I start lyin’!
