LAWARENCE — If you know anything about Warren Central then you know the motto “Can’t Fold Won’t Fold.” Well playas, it was on full display on Friday night as they came from behind after struggling to find a rhythm to beat Lawrence North 27-25 in a thriller down the stretch.
Lawrence North had these boyz gasping for air at the break holding Warren to a 13-7 disadvantage at the break. WC’s leading scorer, Jesse Bingham was scoreless in the first half and still had no points midway through the third quarter. At the end of the third quarter Lawrence North was up 19-11. Then all of a sudden that “Can’t Fold Won’t Fold” started bumpin’ in the Big Body Chevy.
It was nuts that the defending Class 4A State Champs literally couldn’t buy a bucket that deep into the game. With 5:04 left Lawrence North led 21-13 and the Warriors looked as if they were in trouble. Then with 4:53 left shots started falling as Dub-C climbed to within 6 down 21-15. Davis Bell pulled up and knocked down a jumper to make it 21-17. Then Jakobie Robinson rips LN’s Shamar Avance, he’s fouled and they exchange words. Both players pick up a technical with 4:34 with LN up 21-17. Jakobie shoots two free throws and makes them both to make it 21-19 LN. At that point Warren Central had gone on an 8-2 run to put boyz on notice.
As the roof was popping off of the joint. Isaiah Moore knocked down a three with less than 3 minutes left to put the Warriors up 22-21. LN’s Avance answered to put the Wildcats back up 23-22.
Jesse Bingham finally connects on a jumper with less than a minute left go up 24-23. That was Bingham’s first bucket of the night.
With 30 seconds left DJ Hughes comes up big for the Wildcats to regain the lead 25-24. Warren’s Isiah Moore is then fouled while taking a 3-pointer and nailed the first free throw to tie it at 25-25. LN’s Keifer calls a timeout to freeze him. However, Moore comes right back out and sinks the next two like a G to go up 27-25.
As the clock is winding down LN’s Tony Perkins shoots the three and misses. Hughes gets the put back but it falls short at the buzzer and it’s the “Can’t Fold Won’t Fold” cats from the FAR EAST SIDE in the Big Body Chevy pulling out of the parking lot with a 27-25 win to advance to the Sectional 10 championship game against Lawrence Central. Round III bruh!!! In my Terrell Owens voice, “Get Ya Popcorn Ready!!!”
