INDIANAPOLIS — Like Big Momma used to say, “I’m tired of being sick and tired” of saying the same thing every year come tournament or playoff time in Indianapolis depending upon the sport. The sectionals tip off next week in the state of Indiana for boys basketball and the fix is already in.

The two best teams in the state are once again paired to play each other right out of the gate. No.2 Lawrence North will play No.3 Lawrence Central on next Wednesday night March 4 in their Sectional 10 opener.

Yeah, I know that Bloomington South is the current No.1 but they aren’t better than either of the Lawrence schools and it’s not even close. They’re still undefeated because they haven’t played the best teams walking. #FACTS

So why on earth are the two best teams breathing playing their sectional opener against their biggest rival? To get one of them out of the tournament as soon as possible.

They blow my mind telling us that it’s always a blind draw when it looks like somebody had their eyes wide open putting it together. Sure, I know that the sectionals are the sectionals and because of geography they would be in the same sectional every year regardless. However, why are the two best teams in the sectional facing off in their respective openers? It’s ridiculous.

Somebody sitting in the room could have at least said, “Hey bruh, let’s square these two up in the sectional championship game. It doesn’t make sense to have them play in their opener on Wednesday night.”

It’s the same foolishness during football season. Every year seems like, Ben Davis and Warren Central meet in the sectional when they’re No.1 and No.2 in no particular order. They’ve finally put BD back on the west side where they belong in the sectionals for next year. However, for years it was a set up to get one of them out early and the actual state title game becomes a nightmare to watch because they end up beating the brakes off of their opponent.

I’m tired for being sick and tired! I guess we’ll all have to make sure we’re at the Class 4A State Title game on Wednesday between No.2 Lawrence North and No.3 Lawrence Central in Sectional 10 to say we at least saw it. Stop me when I start lyin’!
