Rams cutting Todd Gurley further proves that you can pay the wrong players the wrong money! “The ULTIMATE TEAM SPORT”

Football is the ultimate team sport and paying ridiculous money for players doesn’t always equal wins. Just before the 2018 season the Los Angeles Rams made Todd Gurley the highest-paid running back in NFL history. They signed him to a four-year, $60 million extension that included $45 million in guarantees. On Thursday they got rid of him.

They paid the dun all of that money when he still had two years left on his rookie deal. Now they at least have to pay him his guarantees when they could have paid him nothing two years ago and let the rookie deal expire instead of negotiating.

Sure, they made the Super Bowl during the 2018 season but the following season in 2019 they went 9-7 and didn’t sniff the playoffs. Paying him before the season didn’t ensure that they would make the Super Bowl.

Over the past 20 months they’ve made some other ridiculous financial personnel commitments by over-paying quarterback Jared Goff and defensive tackle Aaron Donald and receiver Brandin Cooks.

Now they’re unloading boyz like bad weight on a boat. That’s not to say that Gurley isn’t a beast but it makes no sense to pay that type of money for a running back in today’s NFL. Everybody in the league runs a spread offense or some variation of the spread. Paying a running back who is already at high risk of injury $45 million in guarantees is crazy. Why is he high risk of injury? Because he’s a running back!!!

At some point y’all gone start listening to me. The only type of cats that are worth paying through the nose at this point are quarterbacks because they touch the ball on every play. They’ve got control of where it goes and who ultimately gets their hands on it.

The only other cat that should be paid ridiculous money is someone that does multiple things on the field well. Someone like a Deion Sanders or Rod Woodson. Those type of players played all over the field. Deion returned kick-offs, punts, played corner, receiver etc. Rod could do the same. However, you don’t have cats in the league that can do all of those things well.

Therefore, why spend stupid money on a running back that will eventually be hurt because he’s taking too much punishment? Why spend millions when you can get the same production out of a 6th round pick and pay him $600K. Well we seen Pittsburgh do it with James Conner when Le’Veon Ball pulled his stunt a couple of year ago. We’ve seen it all over the league. Paying running backs is a bad investment because they don’t last long.

NEVER pay a running back that type of bread!!! NEVER!!! I say NEVER pay a defensive tackle that type of bread either. I tried to tell Bears fans that they were wasting money on Khalil Mack but they wouldn’t listen.

The Bears are still the Bears and they’re paying him through the nose to still suck. A defensive end rarely touches the ball and he can always be game-planned or double teamed out of the way. Thus the Bears still suck even though they’re paying Mack $141 million with $90 million and he’s still a beast. That was the biggest waste of money ever spent by the Bears but they are the Bears.

The moral of the story here is FOOTBALL IS THE ULTIMATE TEAM SPORT!!! Paying the wrong guy the wrong money can hurt you more than it will help you. Stop me when I start lyin’!
