M.I.C. Sectional Results and No.1 Avon goes down to No.8 Brownsburg “NUTS!”

SECTIONALS — Well playas…the opening week for Class 6A Sectionals was just as crazy as the regular season. The M.I.C. finished with a four way tie for the conference title but there are no ties for the state championship and all teams have to compete. In my Weekly Preview I was spot on for all of the games but the Center Grove game. I’d picked Columbus East to beat the Trojans and Center Grove beat the brakes off of Columbus East.

Again, I forgot about the power of the M.I.C. right? Center Grove came into the game with a 4-5 record and Columbus East was sitting on a 7-2 boy and it didn’t matter one bit.

All of the other games went as I’d predicted. Warren Central went into North Central’s backyard and beat them again just like they’d done in last year’s playoffs. Carmel did what Carmel does. Win!!!

Lawrence North knocked off Lawrence Central in the Battle of Lawrence II! It’s hard to beat a team twice as the Bears found out on Friday night. Lawrence Central won the regular season match up Week 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium but the LN was not going out at the crib on Friday night.

Zionsville beat the doors off of Pike who never really found a rhythm this season with only one win. Finally, the Ben Davis Giants jumped all over Perry Meridian 57-0. This game was just another example of why everybody shouldn’t be in the playoffs. Perry Meridian hadn’t won a game all season. So why on earth is Ben Davis wasting it’s time playing them?

The biggest surprise of the night across the state was No.8 Brownsburg knocking off previously unbeaten and No.1 ranked Avon 27-24 in a thriller at Brownsburg. It was NUTS!!! It’s hard to beat a boy twice and the Orioles found that out too. Here’s another example of why the tournament should be seeded. Why is the No.1 team that is undefeated playing the No.8 right out of the gate?

What’s the point in being undefeated if you’ve got to play one of the best teams in the state the first night of the playoffs? Let’s get ready for the Class 6A Sectional Championships. Let’s Go!

Warren Central 17 North Central 10
