INDIANAPOLIS — On Tuesday Warren Central named Kristof Kendrick it’s new boys head basketball coach. Kendrick led the Howe program for the past two seasons finishing with an outstanding 35-15 record. Now he’s earned the right to lead one of the best programs in the state.

It’s not like he’s totally foreign to THE FAR EAST SIDE. Kendrick was on Criss Beyers coaching staff for two of Beyers’ four years. He left to take over at Howe prior to the 2017-18 season in which the Warriors went 32-0 winning the Class 4A State Championship.

He had this to say to the Indy Star’s Kyle Neddenriep after being hired on Tuesday. “I’m familiar with the kids and the administration at Warren Central. There are top-level facilities and I’m excited to coach in the M.I.C. at a program that has turned into a state powerhouse. That pretty much summed it up for me.”

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! If Kendrick was able to win big time at Howe without the facilities and the large numbers of players in the program that you naturally get with a 4A program. He’s going to go crazy at Warren Central. Crazy as in good. Crazy as in he’s about to ball out over there.

Warren Township has a feeder system that NUTS with plenty of ball players to choose from. Criss Beyers left the program in excellent shape.

I’ve followed Kendrick for the past two seasons at Howe and he’s a helluva coach that gets the respect of the young men he leads. First of all, kids have to respect the cat coming into the gym everyday. Check!! Then he has to understand the players and be able to see into their world, especially on the FAR EAST SIDE. Check! Lastly, he’s got to be able to coach. CHECK! CHECK! CHECK!!

Kristof Kendrick was an excellent hire for the Warriors and I don’t see a drop off at all for the Warren Central program going forward. Salute to athletic director Marques Clayton for doing a helluva job in finding the right guy to take over the program. It should be exciting to watch and stop me when I start lyin’!
