BLOOMINGTON — The Indiana Hoosiers are ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since Sept. 20, 1994 and everybody and their Uncle LeRoy, cousin Man-Man and Aunt Betty are going crazy about it. Tom Allen has led the Hoosiers into the big time and folks around the state are loving it. They’re 7-2 coming off of a huge blow out win over Northwestern and are bowl bound. The football program is sitting on top of the world down there in Bloomington.
Tom Allen has them rolling right now with losses only to Michigan State, in which they battled to the end, and a blow out loss to possibly the best team in America, THEE Ohio State Buckeyes.
That’s pretty impressive for the Hoosiers. Only two losses!!! Really bruh? Nobody saw this head coach coming into Bloomington having this type of success. He’s not even through his third season yet and he’s got a 17-16 record in BLOOMINGTON. During his first two seasons as the head coach for IU he went 5-7 in each of those seasons. Now he’s killing the game with a 7-2 record with three games to go!!! That’s NUTS!!!!
You’d literally have to go back to Bo McMillin from 1934-1947 to find an IU coach with a winning record and therein lies the problem for Hoosiers fans. This is extraordinary success. For a coach to be 7-2 at Indiana means that if he’d had even better talent and more bread to work with in the program and his pockets he’d be even better. Well that’s the logic anyway.
Other schools are going to come calling in the next few weeks and unless the Hoosiers are willing to double Allen’s salary they may lose him to a bigger and better program. Keep in mind that Arkansas out of the SEC just fired their head coach and is looking for one right now. They’re in football country in a football conference and they’re willing to back the truck up on Tom Allen’s front lawn and unload it.
You do the math playa! Go to a football school where the culture is ALL about football and make 5 or 6 million per year and get fired in 3 or 4 years or stay at IU and make $2 million per year and still get fired in 5. You’re not going to win forever at IU anyway. It’s IU. They’re snuck up on boys this year. That’s not going to continue to happen. So take the bag while it’s open.
Don’t think for one minute that the Hoosier fans will be satisfied with IU winning 6 or 7 games per year. Once Allen repeats the winning the fans will get greedy and want more. The next thing you know they’ll be running him out of town because they wanted a bigger bowl and more wins just like they did Joe Tiller at Purdue.
Ge took them to 9 straight bowl games and they turned on him wanting Big Ten titles annually. It was Purdue for crying out loud. Just like I’m telling you today that it’s IU. Tom Allen shouldn’t fall for the Oakey Doke and take the bag when it comes.
So I’ll just say this, enjoy it while you can IU fans because if that dun can count as well as he can coach. He’s out of there on the first thing smoking and the Hoosiers will go back to being…well the Hoosiers. Stop me when I start lyin’!
