The 1972 Dolphins were poppin’ bottles when the 49ers went down on Monday Night! “Still Relevant”

The 1972 Miami Dolphins are celebrating this morning like they’ve just won the Super Bowl all over again. The champagne is poppin’ and the boyz are toasting. Why? Because the Seattle Seahawks did them a solid on Monday night by knocking off the previously unbeaten San Francisco 49ers in overtime 27-24.

The ’72 Dolphins remain the only team in the history of the NFL to win a Super Bowl with an unblemished record. Every time a team starts out of the gate with a perfect record their antennas go up because boyz seem to be circling the neighborhood but fortunately for the old timers they can never find the house.

You’ve got to give the 49ers crazy props for even doing what they’ve done this year. With this loss they became just the third team to win its first eight games and lose its first one in overtime in the Super Bowl era, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. That’s major, especially understanding that the 49ers have been trash for long time.

They’ve come out of nowhere jumping all over cats this year and will still be a force to be reckoned with. However, you’ve got to give Russell Wilson and Co. crazy love for going into Levi Stadium and knocking the league’s only undefeated team off in front of Big Momma and cousin Ray-Ray nem. That’s HUGE and it’s a unbelievable confidence builder for Seattle.

So now we’ll have to continue to wait for the next team to try to win a Super Bowl with an unblemished record. The Patriots got close a few years ago when they stormed into Super Bowl XLII 16-0 looking to become only the second team to finish with a perfect record. However, Eli Manning and Co. (New York Giants) knocked them off 17-14 and the ’72 Dolphins once again broke out the champagne.

I love it when the old timers can still talk $100 worth of noise and still be relevant. Stop me when I start lyin’!
