Creighton finally suspends McDermott and asking his players if he should resign was a bully move. “OUTRAGEOUS”

Creighton finally stepped up and at least suspended head basketball coach Greg McDermott for his racially insensitive comments made last weekend. On Thursday evening they suspended him from all team activities.

In a statement athletic director Bruce Rasmussen had this to say, “After our Creighton men’s basketball team returned to Omaha earlier today, Fr. Hendrickson and I engaged with other senior leaders in dialogue and discussion regarding appropriate sanctions for the remarks made by Head Men’s Basketball Coach Greg McDermott that were not in alignment with Creighton’s commitment to racial equity, diversity and respect. Coach McDermott and the team have accepted that, effective immediately, he is suspended from all team activities, including Saturday’s home season finale against Butler. Further sanctions remain under consideration, not all of which will be shared publicly.”

He goes on to say, “Coach McDermott and our Athletic program must use this incident as an opportunity for growth and learning, as clearly more work needs to be done.”

Ya think….

For your head basketball coach to think that it made sense to address a team full of black players with, “Guys, we got to stick together. We need both feet in. I need everybody to stay on the plantation. I can’t have anybody leave the plantation'” is absolutely crazy. And the fact that it took this long for the university to, at the very least, suspend him is asinine.

Why is this man even working with student-athletes? What’s even crazier is that he went on the Creighton’s pregame radio show Wednesday before they played Villanova and said that he offered to resign but his team wanted him to coach. In his words, “Our guys wanted me to coach, and that’s my job.”

Now what kid that is getting his tuition, books, room and board paid for by this man is going to look him in the eye and say you need to resign? No kid is sticking his neck out to do that.

What if a kid says, “Yeah coach you need to resign and the university doesn’t accept the resignation. Now that kid is worried about the coach messing with his money or not playing him etc. That was a bully move in and of itself.

If he really thought that he should have resigned he should have resigned. Don’t ask the kids what he should have done. That’s ridiculous and it was a bully move The university should get rid of him because he’s insensitive and he’s a bully. Stop me when I start lyin’!
