It’s crazy to me that a white basketball coach at an institution of higher learning in 2021 can make racists remarks to his team with black players and literally get away with it.
I’ve been sitting in the cut to see what would come of Creighton’s Greg McDermott’s racially insensitive remarks to his team postgame over the weekend. Just as I thought. Nothing!!! He’s still on the sideline without as much as a suspension.
After his team loss over the weekend to Xavier on Saturday this man stood up in front of black players and said, “Guys, we got to stick together. We need both feet in. I need everybody to stay on the plantation. I can’t have anybody leave the plantation.”
What’s so crazy is that the team has stitched on the backs of their uniforms “Equality.” That’s the foolishness and hypocrisy that we as black folks constantly have to deal with. It’s only fashionable to say that we’re going to fight racism together. However, EVERYBODY forgets that we’ve got a job to do.
After the death of George Floyd America wanted the look of finally fighting racism and bigotry but still doesn’t want to get their hands dirty. This is just one example of everybody with the power to make a difference looking the other way.
McDermott was on the sideline on Wednesday coaching like he never said a word over the weekend.
No way should this man be coaching at a major university when he has the capacity to look his players in the eyes and tell them to stay on the plantation. No way. The fact that it rolled off of his tongue is appalling.
What’s even more ridiculous is that the university has done nothing as result. Stop lyin’ to folks about wanting to make this a better place for everyone. As long as people aren’t lynching folks publicly like the officer did George Floyd most Americans are cool with the status quo.
It’s situations like this that tells others that you can say and do whatever you want with no consequences. Stop me when I start lyin’!
