Carmel just keeps on doin’ the darn thang and the hoop team is back for more! “Consistency”

CARMEL — To “hate” on a cat is to be jealous of what they’ve been able to accomplish. Like Big Momma used to always say, “Everybody’s not going to be happy about your success. So don’t take it personally.”

Well playas…the Carmel Greyhounds are back in the Semi-State game this year looking to move on to the Class 4A State Title game for the second year in a row. They’ll walk into the joint this week with a 24-1 record and so much swag that it’s dripping off of them. Not only are they winning but they’re beating the brakes, doors, transmission and back seats off of everybody in their path.

The only cats that caught them sleepin’ this season was Brownsburg, who ended up side swiping them 52-50 back in January. John Michael Mulloy and Co. have been pretty much been perfect as they’ve navigated the mine field of the regular season that includes playing in the best conference in the state, The M.I.C.

Did I mention that three out of the four teams left standing in the Semi-State round are from The M.I.C.? Well they are. Carmel’s leading the way with both Center Grove and Ben Davis having to play each other down in Washington on Saturday. So we’re at least guaranteed to have one M.I.C. team in the title game.

However, the way Carmel is strolling right now there will most definitely be two M.I.C. teams at  Bankers Life Fieldhouse  next week. So let the hating begin. The consistency in winning at Carmel drives the jealous hearted crazy. Since 1970 they’ve won 162 state championships across all sports!!! Are your kidding me?

They’ve won a state title in 19 of the 22 sports offered. That’s crazy!!! Bruh…they’ve been a state champ or runner-up in all 20 sports that the ISHAA currently offers. They are the only school in the state to accomplish such a feat. Oh, did I forget to mention that the girl’s swim team just won it’s 33rd straight state title which is the longest all-time state title streak in the nation in any sport? And now the hoop team is back in the Semi-State again? Yeah…that’ll pull the hater out of most people.

With guys like John Michael Mulloy, Karsten Windlan, Andrew Owens, Luke Heady and Pete Suder playing as well as they’ve been playing it’s going to be hard to deny them another shot at the state title. They were the State Runner-Up to the historic Warren Central 32-0 team a year ago, they’ll be hungry this year and very hard to beat. Good luck fellas and keep adding to the Carmel Athletics trophy cases. Stop me when I start lyin’!
