Ben Davis’ Daylan Carnell is all of that, a bag of chips and the red pop! “Genius”

INDIANAPOLIS — Every now and then there comes a kid that creates so much hype around them that it’s almost legendary. It can at times be subtle but it’s there and it never goes away. For the past year or so the buzz has been around Ben Davis wide receiver/defensive back/athlete extraordinaire Daylan Carnell. I started hearing about this kid his freshman year. I knew who he was in middle school but everybody’s good in middle school that doesn’t count.

However, when he walked into BD as a freshman and did work I figured he was the real deal. Then all of a sudden at the end of his freshman year boyz started offering him big time scholarships and the game changed. Purdue was the first to put their money where their mouth was in May of his freshman year. WHAT!!?  Already? Yessir!!!!

Then Cincinnati pushed their chips into the middle of the table a few months later. After a great sophomore season it got crazy. At 6’1″ 195 pounds Daylan Carmell has become the destination for college recruiters. Everybody and their Uncle LeRoy is in and out of Ben Davis looking for this kid.

Notre Dame wasn’t going to stand around the pool and not offer because he’s one of the best in the country as a junior and the HYPE is 100 percent authentic!!! Back in January of this year the Fightin’ Irish offered and it was a wrap. After the ND knocked on the door with a scholarship IU, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisville, Boston College and Iowa have thrown their chips in too. Oh it’s crazy but it’s real.

So of course I couldn’t wait to see him this season but I wanted to see him when they played a team that was traditionally one of the most disciplined. So I waited until last week to check him out against Carmel at the crib for homecoming. Not only did he put on the full clown suit but he had the whoopie cushion and the water spitting flower to go with it. In other words, he straight clowned these boyz playing both sides of the ball for four quarters.

He was making big plays catching the football at the receiver position and was NUTS at corner making the biggest play of the game with 53 seconds left in the game when he went 55 yards for a touchdown off of a pick 6 to seal the victory. In my Santana Moss voice, “Big time players make big time plays in big time games.”

If you haven’t had a chance put your eyes on Daylan Carnell this season you better take full advantage of it. Kids with that type of skill set don’t come around every day. He’s what they call a genius and you don’t run into them very often. In my hood vernacular, “He’s all of that, a bag of chips and the red pop.” Stop me when I start lyin’!
