Living in a Me-first society is the reason why both players AND coaches no longer care about the TEAM. “14 Days”

On Saturday on CollegeGameDay, college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit said that “this era of player just doesn’t love football” in a discussion about players opting out to prepare for the NFL draft. He got body slammed on social media for saying what was true.

The only thing he didn’t do was call out the coaches too. NOBODY cares about the team anymore. Nobody and that includes both players and coaches. It’s all about ME!!!

Let’s start with the players since that was the initial topic of conversation. Stop calling these cats that started with you in August your brothers and hollerin’ that you’re down for whatever because when it really comes down to it, it’s about YOU. You’re only down for YOU.

When guys say that the bowl game means nothing so I’m going to opt out to prepare for the bowl game because I could get hurt is nothing short of BS. The excuse has been that because we’re not competing for a national title this game means nothing. That is true but none of the games you played most of the season meant nothing either.

Well…let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Unless you were playing for one of the contenders, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Notre Dame etc. none of your games actually meant anything.

You didn’t necessarily need to play in any game after you became an NFL prospect. For example, if said kid had two years of tape under his belt that put him in the NFL draft-able category. There was really no reason for him to suit up in 2021. He could have worked out on his own and still gotten drafted.

The rule doesn’t say that a player has to play for three years. It says that they have to be three years removed from high school. So miss me with the “the game doesn’t mean anything because I could get hurt” foolishness.

You could get hurt at any time because it’s football. We saw Matt Corral from Ole Miss get hurt in the Sugar Bowl last night. Unless it’s a career ending injury. He’ll be just fine for the draft. But he could have been hurt any time during the season. I at least give him credit for playing because it meant something to he and his teammates to play in the Sugar Bowl and finish an outstanding season.

Remember when Miami’s Willis Magahee cared enough about his team and winning when he took out a $2.5 million insurance policy on himself two weeks before he was injured in the Fiesta Bowl? He wanted to play because he started something he wanted to finish. Sure, they were competing for a title but he made sure to protect himself. I’m quite sure Corral is protected too. He’ll be fine. The X-rays were negative.

Anyone can get hurt at any time. The only thing that is guaranteed in the NFL is the signing bonus anyway. Rookies aren’t signing massive guaranteed money deals because they have no leverage.

And it’s cool if you decide that YOU is more important than the team. Just stop calling these dudes your family or your brothers when they aren’t. Stop saying how much you’ll go to war with them etc. Because you won’t. You’ll only go if it benefits YOU.

Let’s holler at the coaches that constantly tell the players and their mommas and daddies that they actually give two cents about them when they are recruiting them. They only care about themselves too because when the new job is offered they bounce before the work on the current season is over too.

We just saw Brian Kelly, Lincoln Riley and several others dip on their teams before the bowl game and leaving them hanging. It was never about the team it was about them and theirs only. Please don’t tell me that they had to bounce because of recruiting and stabilizing the program because if they were playing for a national title they’d still be finishing the season just like Dan Lanning is doing right now.

Lanning is currently the defensive coordinator for the University of Georgia. He’s pulling double duty right now because he accepted the head coaching job at the University of Oregon. Not only is he still coaching but he’s putting a staff together at Oregon and recruiting too.

However, his Bulldogs are about to play for a national championship next week. He wants to win a title so he’s working two jobs right now. It’s important to him only because “He’s” about to play for a title.

If he weren’t about to play for a title he would have bounced on December 13 when Oregon introduced him as their head coach. Why because it’s all about “ME.”

I don’t expect very many people to agree with this article because we live in a society that says it’s all about me and screw everybody else too. How do I know that? Because darn near two years later we are still in a pandemic that could have been over in 14 days. The “You can’t tell me what to do” and it’s all about what I want” syndrome is running rampant and it’s killing us all. The TEAM is no longer of any importance.
