Rap Music was just a year old the last time Georgia won a National Title! “Georgia’s Delight”

INDIANAPOLIS — The Georgia Bulldogs can finally lay down in the Promised Land! They’ve wandered in the wilderness for 41 years and after beating their nemesis 33-18 for the National Championship. It’s got to feel oh so good.

The Bulldogs (14-1) hadn’t won a national title since 1980 when then freshman Herschel Walker was running the rock. Let me put it in perspective for you. The last time Georgia were national champions rap music was only a year old. The Sugarhill Gang’s hit record “Rapper’s Delight” was released September 16, 1979. Now rap music is the most listened to and used genre in the world today. Let that settle in. Rap is everywhere and influences everything.

Fittingly, it was a dog fight for darn near three solid quarters. It was a field goal fest stalled at 9-3 Alabama at the break. The first touchdown wasn’t scored until there was 1:20 left in the third quarter after James Cook got loose for a 67 yard run to put the Dawgs in the Red Zone.

A few plays later Zamir White scored from a yard out to put the Dawgs up 13-9. Bama continued to fight even after losing star wide receiver Jameson Williams earlier in the ball game and went up 18-13.

However, Kirby and Co. continued to bite going up 19-18 when Stetson Bennett connected with Adonai Mitchell on a 40-yard touchdown pass with 8:09 left to play.

At that point the flood gates opened as the best to ever do it, Keith Jackson, used to say. Bennett then hit Brock Bowers on a 15-yard TD off of a screen to go up 26-18.

The Bulldogs nailed the coffin shut when Kelee Ringo picked off Bryce Young and took it to the house traveling with a convoy down the sideline win it all!!! It’s a great day to be a Bulldog today. Their first National Title in 41 years. Enjoy it!!!
