Why Warren Central has become more than just the Pride of THE FAR EAST SIDE! “Opportunity”

THE FAR EAST SIDE — The most amazing thing about growing up in the hood is the opportunity to be able to witness the resilience of the people that come out it’s loins. I grew up in Gary, Indiana where most people from around this state would look down their noses at us and dismiss us as if we were trash. Here’s the beauty of it all, you don’t realize what the rest of the world thinks about you until you get out of the hood to see it. At that point you’ve already succeeded. You’ve beaten the odds and became what most of them have dreamed of becoming but spent too much time taking for granted their comforts in life.

Well playas…that’s what we’ve been witnessing with the Warren Central Warriors for darn near a year now. On Saturday night we saw their football team complete their No.1 ranked season from start to finish with an undefeated record of 14-0 as they beat No.2 Carmel 27-7 to become the Class 6A State Champs. Last spring we watched not only the Girls win the Class 4A Basketball State Title but the Boys went undefeated and won the Class 4A State Title too.

Just so you understand what I’m saying my good people, a school from THE FAR EAST SIDE, which is code for Indianapolis hood, has completely DOMINATED the Indiana high school sports landscape for the entirety of the 2018 calendar year.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Warren Central is an example of what it means to take full advantage of the the opportunities that are set in front of you. All our kids ever need is an opportunity to sit at the table. That’s all anybody ever wants or needs, an opportunity to compete. Once given they’re that, all bets are off.

When we give people the same opportunity to succeed in this world amazing things can happen. Stop telling our children that they can’t accomplish greatness just because they don’t live in the suburbs. Stop telling them that they don’t belong because they live on the wrong side of the tracks or because they don’t have both parents at the crib. Stop telling them that greatness only comes to those that were born with a silver spoon. Greatness comes to those that are willing to put in the work.

Tell them to look at Warren Central. Tell them to believe in themselves and to believe in the process. Tell them to believe that God makes no mistakes and that everyone can become great if they’re willing to put in the work. What the kids from THE EAST SIDE have done over this past year NEEDS to be applauded and put on a pedastal for kids from every hood in America to see.

Bruh…David Bell, who is an All-American in Football as well as an All-State basketball player didn’t lose a game for an entire year!!! As a member of the hoop team and football team he’s gone 46-0!!! That’s INCREDIBLE!!! This kid has forgotten what it feels like to actually lose a game. Opportunity!!

The energy that exudes the walls at Warren Central is remarkable. Don’t get it twisted, they’ve got the same problems that any city school has in ANY HOOD, USA. However, they’ve figured out how to use the most important resources in the building to their advantage, their people. The students, teachers and administrators all work together to love the environment they are in everyday.

That’s a place that reminds me of Gary Roosevelt my alma mater. When I was at the “Velt” in the early to mid 1980’s it was an athletic juggernaut but it was located in the middle of the ghetto. We called it 2-5 because it was on 25th Ave, straight hood. It sat right across the street from the Delaney Projects and it was home to multiple street gangs. However, when you walked into the building it was home to the biggest and brightest minds and was the best athletic program in the state of Indiana hands down. Can you say 9 straight track and field State Titles from 1981 to 1989? Why? Because the people in charge loved the students just like they do at Warren Central. Opportunity!!!

It’s the same place I grew up in and I applaud all of the parents, boosters, teachers and administrators that LOVE those kids to LIFE. That’s the reason why they are so successful on THE FAR EAST SIDE!!! I salute you for all that you do and keep on winning. Stop me when I start lyin’!
