Why Kirschner and James have earned the right to leave Ben Davis on their own terms! “Dippin’!

On Monday the news broke that Ben Davis’ basketball coach Mark James has decided to dip after seven years and a Class 4A State Title in 2017. Ole boy just turned 63 and he’s been coachin’ for 36 years amassin’ an amazin’ record of 559-283. He’s left one of the best programs in the state to coach at Perry Meridian that hasn’t had a winnin’ season in three years and hasn’t won a Sectional title since 2010.

Earlier this year Ben Davis’ football coach, Mike Kirschner, left after literally beaten’ the brakes off of everyone in their path to the Class 6A State Title comin’ out of the best conference in the state. Do I really need to give you his resume bruh? He’s one of the best. Kirschner left one of the premier football powerhouses in the country to go to Mount Vernon.

Now everybody and their baby’s momma are standin’ around scratchin’ their heads tryin’ to make sense of both moves. Neither of those programs have won a gold fish at the state fair in recent years. So why would a boy just dip when they’re winnin’ at Ben Davis?

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Well playas…it’s simple. It’s called time and age. These two cats have been puttin’ in work for a long time and coachin’ in the inner city isn’t just about coachin’. It’s about chasin’ down all of the problems that come along with the environment and still bein’ able to win in spite of the foolishness goin’ on around you.

And please don’t try to tell me that BD isn’t dealin’ with inner-city type issues with their student body because they definitely are.

I know boyz don’t want to hear it but both Kirschner and James have put in enough work with these kids to go out any way they want to. They’ve chased down all the problems and put out all the fires and now they just want to go to work. They’ve counseled enough kids and families to earn the right to dip on their own terms.

I’m disappointed that they’ve decided to go, but I’m not mad at them because I completely understand.

I’m from G.I. so I know what the headaches are of coachin’ in the inner city and what comes along with it. I realize that it wears on you after a while and not everybody is willin’ to retire there. I get it. I salute them for their time and effort because there are a lot of folks that wouldn’t have given the time that they’ve given to these kids or these programs.

For them goin’ to programs with less headaches and no expectations is like a race horse goin’ out to pull a wagon in Amish country. They can do it with their eyes closed and never break a sweat. There are no expectations and if they win just a few games on their way out everybody’s happy and they get to sleep good at night. Much respect to you both for lendin’ a helpin’ hand with our kids. Now, the next couple of men up for the challenge better be ready. Stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Ole boy: noun – the person that I’m currently talkin’ about.

3) Dip: verb – to leave

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
