On Tuesday Tyler Trent, the former Purdue student that inspired millions of people with his positive attitude and great outlook, passed away from a rare form of bone cancer. He was 20 years old. He was a inspiration to everyone that heard his story.

He first met head coach Jeff Brohm in September of 2017 when he posed for a picture with him after camping out in front of Ross-Ade Stadium with other Purdue fans in September of 2017. It was before the Big Ten home opener against No.8 Michigan.

What Brohm didn’t know is that Tyler had spent the afternoon before at a chemotherapy session to treat osteosarcoma. Over the past two football seasons Trent has become an inspiration to us all as he battled the cancer.

I first met him at the Ohio State game earlier this past football season after he predicted that the Boilermakers would beat the Buckeyes. He was spot on!!! He came down to the press room after the game with nothing but positive words and that big smile. He was such a great kid!!!

Today there are so many people mourning the loss of Tyler Trent and just as many that are saddened because he was only on this earth for 20 years. It’s not the quantity of years that we live but it’s the quality of years that we live.

Unfortunately, we can’t control what the start date is or the end date for our lives. We can only control the DASH in between. Tyler Trent made an incredible impact with his dash that inspired millions of people around this country. His positive attitude and great outlook on his situation was remarkable.

He used his dash to do great things and for that I’m grateful to him for his impact. Most importantly Tyler knew the Lord and will forever be in his arms. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So we know that Tyler did what he was sent to this earth to do and now his jobs done. Rest in peace young brother. We’ll see you on the other side.
