The REAL reason Danica Patrick will NOT be missed by the media! “Good Riddance”

Danica Patrick retired from racing on Sunday and she won't be missed by the media! Photo: TheJayGravesReport

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. — I’ve been coverin’ pro sports since 2010 when I got the opportunity to cover the Indiana Pacers. Over the past eight years I’ve covered the NFL, the WNBA, college football and basketball. This is my second year coverin’ the Indianapolis 500 and I’ll cover the Brickyard 400 Labor Day weekend.

It’s been a blast to have the opportunity to interview some of the greatest athletes, coaches and drivers in the world over the last 8 years. I’ve sat down with all-time greats in multiple sports and they’ve been gracious after both wins and losses. I’ve interviewed people like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Paul Pierce, Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan, George McGinnis, Tamika Catchings, Maya Moore, Richard Petty and Tony Kaanan just to name a few. I’ve even had the opportunity to interview David Letterman and his partner Bobby Rahal!!! They’ve all been nothin’ but professional when speakin’ to the press.

During this past month I’ve had the unfortunate pleasure of running into Danica Patrick, a mediocre driver at best, during the preparation for her final race, the Indianapolis 500. Because this is only my second year covering the 500 I’ve been simply trying to feel my way around the sport just like I did the very first year I covered the NBA. I spent an entire year watching my media colleagues as they moved around and operated. I didn’t interview a single player the first year on the job.

I thought that it was important to understand the culture before I dove head first into the pool. So I’ve been doing the same thing with racing. I’m watchin’ EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY. One thing I notice Day 1 at the Speedway this year was that Danica had the worst attitude of any driver out there and she hadn’t won but one race on the Indy Car circuit out of 116 races! The Indy Japan 300. That’s it. She didn’t win a single race on the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series out of 191 races and not a single win on the NASCAR Xfinity Series out of 61 races.

I would have even understood if she were a 4-time Indy500 winner or a NASCAR Champion multiple times over but she isn’t. I would understand her being rude to everyone if she was the dun worth $1.63 billion that owned a race team with several decorated drivers like Mr. Roger Penske. And for the record Roger Penske is that dude!! He blends into the fabric of the track and draws no attention to himself and he’s the nicest guy you ever want to meet.

I would have given her a pass if she were him but she’s just another driver in a car and ole girl was walking around the joint like she was Mario Andretti or somebody.

Every time she interacted with the media she was trippin’! Cutting people off telling folks what she was or wasn’t going to do or say. Rushing folks and having an all out attitude when they wanted to speak with her. I was like, “What is wrong with this woman?”

The final straw for me was after she crashed her vehicle on lap 68 of the 500 on Sunday and boyz had the nerve to actually hold a press conference for her while the race was still going on. She fell off in the spot like she was Gottlieb Daimler, the dun that invented the precursor of what was to be the modern car engine. Naw playa, she walked in like she was Rick Mears, A.J.Foyt, Al Unser, Dan Wheldon or Juan Pablo Montoya or somebody.

The moderator opened by saying, “Thank you for coming in, Danica. We appreciate it.” Her response was, “I didn’t really want to.” What!!!?

The moderator continued by saying, “Obviously not the result you wanted to do, still much to be proud of this month, and with a tremendous career. Tell us a little about what happened today, but more than that, what this month meant to you and your impressions of the last year.” Ole girl half heard what he said and snapped back with, “The last year?”

The moderator: “This year running the double.” Then she decided that she was just going to ignore the moderator and do her own thing by saying, “All right. Let me just talk!” WHAT!!!?

It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. When you’re a professional and part of your job your is to speak with the media handle it like a G and keep it movin’. The members of the media are the reason that you’re rich and famous in the first place. Nobody would even know who Danica Patrick was if it weren’t for the media. So I’m glad that she’s gone because she had the worst attitude I’ve seen in all of sports. I’m quite sure I can speak for all of the folks behind the computers and cameras, Good Riddance Danica Patrick! Now you can stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Ole boy or Ole girl: noun – the person that I’m currently talkin’ about.

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
