The Bears still stink even after spending $141 million on a defensive end! “I Told You So”

Everybody and their baby’s momma, Uncle Buck and cousin Poncho watched the Chicago Bears get their doors blown off Sunday night 41-25 by their No.1 rival the Green Bay Packers. Now they’re 5-6 on the year and looking a hot mess.

However, if you’re a Bears fan and have been for any length of time you’ve grown to expect this type of foolishness. It’s one of the worst run franchises in the history of pro sports. Year after year they make dumb decisions and their fans keep riding with them. They literally make excuses for their behavior in the front office.

I’ve watched the Bears since I was 4 years old growing up in Gary, IN. just 25 minutes from Soldier Field and I’ve never been a fan. I was a Walter Payton fan but not a Bears fan because they were horrible. I felt bad for Walter because he had to play on their team. Then they finally got to a Super Bowl on the 2 yard line and gave the ball to the Fridge to score instead of the dun that carried them for 10 years on his back. Sure, they had a great defense in 1985 but Walter kept them relevant until the defense showed up.

That was the beginning of foolishness and ignorance with the Bears for me. They were a hot mess consistently after that. Well…until Lovie Smith took over and he had them winning as in having winning records. He even took them to the Super Bowl. Then they decided that it made good sense to fire ole boy after winning 10 games in CHICAGO!!! He was 10-6 but the Bears didn’t make the playoffs that year because the division was just that good.

They’ve been a dumpster fire ever since!!

In 2018 they decided that it made good sense to pay a freakin’ defensive lineman $141 million over 6 years when they needed all kinds of weapons all over the field. Not only did they trade for Khalil Mack and pay him a king’s ransom but they gave up first-round draft picks in 2019 and 2020, a third-round pick in 2020 and a sixth-round pick in 2019.

I wrote a Hot Joint entitled “Same Ole Foolishness” explaining to these delusional Bears fans that I grew up with that it was the worst financial decision in franchise history and they snapped.

Two years later and a complete throbbing by the Packers on national television later they’re like crickets. I may not know a lot about everything but I do know football and I know a dun that puts his hand in the dirt isn’t going to turn your terrible team around.

We live in the spread offense era and you’ve got to score points to win, lots of points. The motto “Defense wins championships” went out of the window when they started spreading the field. You can’t defend it. You can only slow it down because you’ve got to account for everyone on the field now at all times. You didn’t have to do that went teams weren’t throwing to running backs out of the backfield and quarterbacks having the run pass options that they have today.

They weren’t lining up trips to one side and having a quarterback that could either throw it or run down your throat. A defensive lineman is only effective if the dun is dropping back all night long because he gets into a rhythm. If he’s got to chase a boy all night it’s easier to just double team him or run the play to the opposite side. Khalil is a beast but he’s not winning you games playa and that’s what it’s all about. The best teams have the best quarterbacks that they were willing to pay big money. Chicago took its money and paid a dun to tackle. Darn shame for as much trash as Bears fans talk. Crickets……
