COLLEGE PARK, MD. — The Purdue Boilermakers pulled into College Park on Tuesday night bumping that DJ Khaled “All I Do Is Win” joint as they were on an eight game winning streak looking invincible. Well playas…Maryland shut that noise down by putting the clamps on them in the second half to not only beat them but to beat the brakes off of them 70-56.

The Boilermakers jumped out of the ride putting in work as usual going up 38-30 by the break. Carson Edwards seemed to be on his usual program of getting to the rack and pulling up from anywhere on the floor as he put up 17 points in the first half. Purdue seemed to be in control like they’d been the previous 8 ball games of their winning streak and the previous 5 they’ve played Maryland.

They’d beaten the Terripans the last five times they’ve met including a 62-60 win back in December. However, that meant nothing on Tuesday as Maryland came out of the break and went to work on Matt Painter’s Crew.

Down by eight at the half Maryland stormed back to tie it at 40 with about 10 minutes left to play before destroying them down the stretch. They outscored Purdue 40-18 in the second half. That’s NUTS!!! The Boilermakers shot only 17 percent in the second half including going 1 for 16 from behind the arc. They couldn’t hit an elephant in the butt with a base fiddle with magnifying glasses on.

Maryland not only did work on the defensive end but they took care of business offensively. Ayala Smith dropped off 15, Anthony Cowan Jr. gave them the business with 12 as Fernando Bruno had a solid double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, his seventh straight double-double and 16th of the season. NUTS!!! Aaron Wiggins came off of the bench and gave them 11.

Carsen Edwards was the only Boilermaker in double figures with 24 and he scored 17 of those in the first half. They only got 11 points off of the bench!! As a team they shot a miserable 28 percent from the field and 21 percent from behind the arc. I’m quite sure Matt Painter and company don’t even want to look at the film from this game. Moving on…
