BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Virginia Tech Hokies got off of the bus talking $100 worth of noise as No.6 Notre Dame came calling. Lane Stadium was rocking and boyz were on fire as the game started!! By the time the smoke cleared 60 minutes later it was as quiet a church mouse wearing Air Nike house shoes laying on a bed of cotton candy as the Fightin’ Irish put that thang on them 45-23.
At the break Notre Dame was only up a single point 17-16 with the Virginia Tech faithful still interested and the players continuing to talk strong enough to tip over a semi. With the Irish backed up on their on 3 yard line with 11:49 left in the third quarter following a Dexter Williams 2 yard loss the entire atmosphere turned on it’s ear. On the very next play Williams went 97 yards down the middle of the field to pop that thang wide open.
The Hokies looked shook the rest of the way and No.6 Notre Dame (6-0) continued to look like a title contender. They’ve got both the speed and the athleticism to compete with anybody and we haven’t seen that from a Fightin’ Irish squad in a very long time. Can you say early ’90’s teams and even the 1988 squad that won it all?
Once they made the switch at quarterback to Ian Book the offense has blossomed. Now that Dexter Williams is back they look to become a very, very good team.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! What’s driving me crazy is all of the talking heads continuing to tell us how great Alabama looks when they’ve played NOBODY all season!!! They’re scoring 60 plus points every week but they’ve played toy soldiers for 6 weeks. However, when someone even sneezes the words Notre Dame or Ohio State they act like you’ve cursed them out.
I’m not saying that Bama isn’t a great team but we don’t really know how great they are because they’ve played Boo Boo State for 6 weeks!!! Notre Dame on the other hand has played a real football schedule since Week 1!! Sure, they played Ball State but everybody gets at least one or two cupcakes to polish off just to get started. However, ND has already beaten three ranked opponents in the first six games. They’ve knocked off No.14 Michigan, then No. 7 Stanford and now No.24 Virginia Tech on the road at their HOME stadium. Not on a neutral field in their own backyard.
I wrote a crazy Hot Joint last week entitled “Still Hiding” where I said that Alabama continues to hustle the system and NOBODY questions it. They’ve played dull Louisville on a neutral field, extra dull Arkansas State, always dull Ole Miss, consistently a fraud and seriously dull No.22 Texas A&M, dull with mild sauce on the side Louisiana Lafayette and forever dull Arkansas. Then in next two weeks they’ve got dull with one shoe on Mizzou, and haven’t been good since T-Martin dull Tennessee.
So we’ll be 8 games into the season before Alabama plays their first football game of the season against LSU. Then they’ll go back to dullness by playing Miss State and The Citadel before playing Auburn in the Iron Bowl. C’mon playa this is ridiculous and NOBODY sees this? Why does Bama continue to get a hall pass to skip class when everybody else has to play real football all season? Not only that, everybody else is REQUIRED to run the table to get in but them.
They’ll get into the SEC title game undefeated and win or lose that game they still get into the Playoff. Why? Because the analysts and voters will say that you can’t keep a one loss SEC team out of the playoff.
So because they play only two ball games all season long they’ve got no attrition and therefore, is always ready to play for a national title. Attrition for y’all that don’t understand is having guys injured. If you’re blowing everybody out on your dull schedule you’re starters never play an entire game. Therefore, your team sustains less injuries. Therefore, by the time you get to the playoff everybody is healthy when your opponents aren’t. Why? Because they’ve played real schedules and had to run the table just to get in. Y’all can’t see that?
Notre Dame should be ranked No.1 in the country right now because of their strength of schedule alone. I’m not saying that Bama isn’t great but we don’t really know do we? You’ve got to play somebody for boys to know how good you really are and Notre Dame has circled that box at this point. Stop me when I start lyin’!
