LAWRENCE, INDIANAPOLIS, IN. — As I make my final stop on the M.I.C. Season Preview I had to chop it up with Lawrence Central’s new coach John Rodenberg. After Bill Peoples bounced to take over at Cathedral the Bears didn’t waste any time swoopin’ up the former coach of seemingly always nationally ranked Cincinnati Moeller.

Rodenberg isn’t goin’ to be intimidated by the M.I.C. which is the best conference in the state because he’s already won three state titles himself. He led Covington Catholic in Kentucky to the state title in 2006 and then Cincinnati Moeller to titles in 2012 and 2013. When he finally stepped down after 10 years with the powerhouse he’d posted an 80-41 record. NUTS!!!

So now he’s takin’ over a program that has crazy facilities and Peoples didn’t leave the cupboard bare by any stretch of the imagination. Rosenberg has a veteran team that he can do work with. In talkin’ with the new head coach he had this to say, “Well I’ve been very fortunate to inherit a bunch of good seniors, a bunch of returning starters. I mean that’s made the transition real easy. These guys have got a lot of playing time. So really to come in, I felt like I really wanted to give these guys a great opportunity to win.”

He’s goes on to say, “Sometimes when you take over a program you start from the bottom up. I’m kinda starting from the top down.” Check out the full interview:

Rosenberg says that he wants his team to be physical and fast. He wants to run as many plays as he can with this team. That means that it’s about to be Chris Brown up in this piece, “On and Poppin’!”

That should make for some excitin’ games in the M.I.C.! Especially with all of the talent on both sides of the ball in the conference.

The new coach says that they spent a lot of time conditionin’ this summer because of the high tempo he expects to play with.

The Bears will lean heavily on guys that played huge roles for them last season. Wide receiver Donivan Wright jumps off of the page as big time play maker for LC. Not only is he the real deal but he made my All-Uniform Team several times last season. Ole boy looks like a straight stud in his uniform bruh. When he walks on the field you already know he’s the real deal.

Then there’s defensive back Trevon Booker that will be roamin’ the field on a boy and gettin’ to the ball because his skills are NUTS!!! Running back Bryce Anderson will be a major factor on totin’ the rock and please don’t sleep on the offensive line that will do much damage in 2018.

Rodenberg’s got so much talent to work with it should be fun to watch. They kick it off at the crib on Friday against Hamilton Southeastern. Make sure you’re in the place and stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus: Learn these words this football season!

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Put it where the goats can get it: verb phrase – to make it as elementary as possible. To put it at ground level so everyone can understand it.

3) Ole boy: noun – the person that I’m currently talkin’ about.

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
