Aight everybody…let’s just relax this morning. The LeBron James led Los Angeles Lakers made their debut on Thursday night in Portland. They lost 128-119 and guess what playas? The sky isn’t falling. It’s one game and they’ve got crazy things to fix on a team with absolutely no shooters. What we saw last night was what we expected.
The Lakers can’t shoot, at least not right now. They missed their first 15 3-point shot attempts. They aren’t big enough inside as they got out rebounded 54-46 and they got outscored on second chance buckets 21-10. However, they can run the floor as they outscored Portland 34-12 in fast break points.
It’s obvious who the leader is but it was impressive to see Rajon Rondo take over as the clear second lieutenant. Give it time and this will be a fun team to watch. Well…they’re already fun to watch. They’re much better than the Cleveland team LeBron had to carry to the Finals last season and he’s got some dogs ready to ride with him day one in LA.
LeBron finished the night with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Pretty darn good for opening night on the road on a new team. Hoop fans will take it.
Now I’m not saying that the Lakers will be a Finals team today. What I am saying is that they’ve got the potential to be a pretty good team if they can figure out how to shoot the three.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! They’ve got a couple of moves to make on that roster but everybody and they’re baby’s momma will be watching the Lakers every night this entire season. Why? Because LeBron has restored national interest in LA. It’s already been America’s hoop team, now it’s on steroids.
You thought that they were playing home games on the road all over the league before, now it’s going to be NUTS!!! LeBron in LA with a Lakers uniform on? In my Uncle Vinny voice, “Forget about it.”
