THE FAR EAST SIDE — It was like Ali and Frazier on Monday night when No.1 Warren Central and Lawrence Central battled in the Marion County Tournament Championship. Dub-C walked out of the joint with the trophy even though LC led for 34 minutes. Well playas, they had to do it all over again on Friday night. The Big Body Chevy pulled up bumpin’ that DJ Khalid, “All I Do is Win” joint and the ’79 Impala came through sittin’ on them thangs ready to do it all over again.

When the smoke cleared Lawrence Central was riding off in the Impala with their chest poked out after knocking off the No.1 team in the state that had been on a 46 game winning streak. They had just knocked off the best team in the state and was literally 2 minutes from nearly doing it twice in one week but that’s why they play the game right?

Warren Central jumped out of the ride and went on a 10-5 run before Lawrence Central could even get their shoes tied. Then the junior point guard that gave them so many problems on Monday, Nijel Pack, got boyz going to make up some ground. At the end of the first quarter Dub-C was up 16-12.

As the second quarter got under way, both teams were getting up and down the floor. Like the old timers used to say, they were picking them up and putting them back down very quickly. LC’s Dre Davis was giving boyz problems as the Bears were in hot pursuit trailing 26-18 with 2:02 left in the half.

By the time everyone looked up Warren Central was up 31-20 at the break looking to be in complete control. In other words, they’d turned the music up in the Big Body Chevy and had opened the doors.

Well playas…the duns from Lawrence Central came out of the locker room like Big Momma had taken her wig off and cursed everybody up one wall and down the other.

Nigel Pack who finished with 15 came out of the driver side. Dre Davis who finished with 10 came out of the passenger seat and Jacob Laravia opened the trunk and finished with a game high 19 points launched a three-pointer to tie it up at 35-35. Then Pack put up a three to go ahead 38-35 with 7:20 left to play.

It was like Warren Central was stuck in the mud or something. With 3:09 LC had gone up 46-39. That was a 26-8 run in the second half. At that point Jacob Laravia was getting to the foul line like he owned it bruh knocking down free throws like dominoes.

With 1:17 left, Dre Davis knocked down two free throws to go up 50-41! That means that LC was on a 30 to 11 run in the second half at that point. It wasn’t mud that was keeping Warren Central in check. It was the defense that LC played the entire second half. They kept Dub-C uncomfortable and never allowed them to get good looks at the basket. They kept them off balance in their ball movement and kept them guessing offensively. Warren didn’t play with the same confidence that they normally play with in that second half.

Give LC tall props for coming into Warren’s gym, erasing an 11-point halftime deficit and going on a 34-13 run to close the game out. Tall props once again to the Bears for being able to side swipe the Big Body Chevy and get past them when 46- other cats couldn’t. Don’t get it twisted, Warren Central isn’t going anywhere. They’ll be sitting in the door way to the state championship. Stop me when I start lyin’.
