Will somebody holler at your boy Kawhi Leonard and tell him to keep it movin’ as it relates to the “Claw Design” owned by Nike. The dun has filed a lawsuit against the apparel giant to keep using the logo even after he’s now no longer with Nike.
Phil Knight and Co. aren’t going out like some suckers so they filed a countersuit against him essentially telling boyz that they own the logo because their team of designers came up with the finished product. Kawhi claims that he submitted the logo when, in fact, he submitted a rough draft of it and they came up with a final version of the logo.
Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! Kawhi is now signed to New Balance which has already come up with several campaigns to market and promote the Kawhi brand. They’ve got the “Fun Guy” promotion playing off of the training camp interview and the “King of the North” promotion playing off of the Game of Thrones.
I get that ole boy wants to keep putting the “Claw” on gear because that was his brand but it’s Nike bruh. They’re no different than the old school record company. Unless you handle it legally on the front end with keeping your logo or name as your brand, they own it. Especially if you allow them to come up with the logo.
If he was going to try to keep the “Claw” then he should have had his people develop it from start to finish and then put in writing that it belongs to him. Then he could have walked away with it. However, the day he told Nike to help him complete it they were going to make sure that they owned it. That’s called business playa and Kawhi didn’t understand it at the time. It’s too late now.
Do you think for one minute that a billion dollar corporation is going to allow a boy to walk away with their logo and keep making money off of it? If he wanted to keep using it then he should have re-signed with Nike. They’ve got way too much bread to lose this case.
