LOS ANGELES — Everybody and their baby’s momma’s momma, Ms. Jackson, was either at the Staples Center or watching it on TNT. The Lakers and Clippers squared off at 10:30pm eastern and it was NUTS!!! However, the NBA season tipped off in Toronto with an overtime win by the Raptors over the Pelicans 130-123. That was simply the appetizer because boyz wanted to see Kawhi Leonard make is debut in the City of Dreams against Anthony Davis and LeBron and Co.
Before the game started Kawhi got on the mic to thank the fans of LA for coming out. The Laker fans booed him because he didn’t sign with them. What did they do that for? Instead of talking trash and being ignorant he just went out and dropped 30 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block on them in a 112-102 win. Ole boy was not playing.
Coming fresh off of leading the Raptors to an NBA title last season he let boyz know that he’s Kawhi “freakin'” Leonard and there was more greatness where that came from.
When the Laker fans started booing him he paused for a minute and then spoke into the mic louder trying to make sure folks heard him.
“I just heard a loud noise, I was just trying to be as loud as I can. I wasn’t sure if people, the Clipper fans were being loud or if it was the Laker fans. I didn’t pay attention to it too much. I was just trying to let the fans know the appreciation we have for them for coming out tonight.”
Don’t get it twisted, Kawhi, on opening night, put the rest of the NBA on notice. The Clip Joint ain’t nothing to play with. They balled out without Paul George even suiting up. He’s recovering from shoulder surgery. So it should be fun to watch when he gets back into the line up.
Not only did Leonard let boyz know what time it was but their bench pulled up in the Big Body Chevy with the music blasting as they had four reserves finish the night in double figures. Lue Williams hit them for 21, Montrezl Harrell dropped 17, JaMycal Green put 12 on it and Maurice Harkless gave them 10.
Getting that type of production off of the bench could be a serious problem for opponents this season. Doc Rivers and Co. might be on to something playas if they can sustain that type of production from their bench.
Danny Green led the Lakers with 28 points while Anthony Davis dropped off 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. LeBron came through with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
It was a great start to the NBA season and I can’t wait for more. Let’s Go!! Stop me when I start lyin’!
