The old timers used to say that all good things must come to an end. Well…on Monday Jayson West informed the Warren Central administration that he was leaving for Franklin Central and boy does it hurt. In eight seasons on the FAR EAST SIDE, West was 71-26 winning Class 6A state titles in 2013 and 2018. Talk about making an impact!!

He came to Warren Central after a five year stint at Lawrence Central and winning a Class 5A state title in 2012 including a trip to the state finals in 2010.

Franklin Central is getting one helluva coach in Jayson West. He’s  123-38 overall in 13 seasons as a head coach with only one losing season. He was 4-6 this past season because they were extremely young. Whoever takes over at WC will be in great shape because they’ve got crazy talent.

It’s hard watching a man make decisions to leave but sometimes it’s best for the family. According to West it was just that. Speaking with IndyStar’s Kyle Neddenriep, West said that the decision to leave was more about family than anything else. He has a seventh grader and two fourth graders.

Not only was West the head football coach at a major high school but he was the assistant athletic director too. That meant spending a lot of extra nights at the school. According to him an additional 40-50 nights a year away from the family.

You can’t be mad at a man for wanting to be available to his wife and kids. That’s what a family man does. You’ve gotta respect that. He’s put his time in and made a helluva impact on the FAR EAST SIDE. Now let him focus on his family.

West went on as he spoke with Neddenriep saying, “Warren Central was awesome to me. I cried all the way home. Principal Rich Shepler and athletic director Marques Clayton have been great to me. If it was just about those two guys, I would stay forever. But my kids are an age now where I need to be there more for them and for my wife. We live 10 minutes from Franklin Central.”

All you can do is thank him for his time at Warren Central, wish him well and keep it movin’! Good luck coach and I’ll see you down the road. Stop me when I start lyin’!
