Before the 2019 college football season started everybody and their baby’s momma had already crowned Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence as the next Heisman Trophy winner. After leading the Tigers to a national title blow out of Alabama as a true freshman boyz had already engraved his name on the award and had the shipping label addressed to his mother’s house.
Well playas…not so fast!! There’s a new sheriff in Norman and his name is Jalen Hurts. Ole boy graduated in just three years from Alabama and dipped over to Oklahoma to play in Lincoln Riley’s offense and it’s been NUTS ever since.
On Saturday he and the Sooners went out to the west coast to get it in with UCLA and it was literally a track meet as the Sooners blasted the Bruins 48-14. The dun put up 439 yards from scrimmage!!! INCREDIBLE!! He had 289 yards passing and 150 yards rushing with four touchdowns to go along with it.
Ole boy had 100 yards rushing in the first quarter alone becoming the first Big 12 quarterback to ever do that. He finished the first half with 200 yards passing and 100 rushing which was also a first for a Big 12 quarterback. That’s NUTS!!!
In just his first three games at OU he’s thrown for 880 yards and 9 touchdowns and rushed for 373 yards and 4 more touchdowns. That’s NUTS!!! The only other OU quarterback to rush for at least 150 or more on multiple occasions was Jamelle Holieway who did it three times. Hurts has already done it twice in his first three games as a Sooner. The offense is so potent with him at the helm that they’ve scored on 17 of their 27 possessions this season and that’s 17 touchdowns. Crazy!!!
So for all of the folks that were ready to just give Trevor Lawrence the Heisman you’d better pump your brakes playa because at the rate Hurts is going he might have it on lock by mid-season. I’m just sayin’!
