How Atlanta hip hop culture left Big Boi hanging at the Super Bowl but kicked it anyway! “Missed Opportunity”

ATLANTA — Now that Super Bowl LIII is in the books it’s time to reflect on the missed opportunity that the Atlanta hip hop community missed out on. All you ever hear about is how “Atlanta Influences Everything” but when the biggest sporting event in the United States showed up in the “A” boyz were a no show. Well, I’ve got to give big props to Big Boi for reppin’ the “A” when nobody else would when they had the opportunity to.

If “Atlanta Influences Everything” then why not take advantage of the opportunity to influence the world and the NFL to do the right thing to help end police brutality, racial and social injustice?

Duns let a pop rock band from Los Angeles come in and rock the joint in the city where the hip hop culture is literally on top of the world right now and for what? Cats literally tried to convince themselves that they were supporting Colin Kaepernick by telling the world that they were boycotting the Super Bowl when they were participating in the festivities anyway.

The city was full of celebrities including every hip hop head imaginable. So therefore, they didn’t boycott the event but went full throttle into it. Again, what was the point? They may as well have been on stage holding the “A” down.

To allow Maroon 5 to come into the ATL and headline the Super Bowl when Atlanta is on top of the rap game right now is the equivalent of the Super Bowl being in Detroit in the early 1970’s and Motown not owning the show. That would be like the Rolling Stones or U2 showing up and headlining when you’ve got The Supremes, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations at the height of their careers. Not only at the top but after they’ve been asked to rock the joint and refused.

Or better yet like the Super Bowl showing up in New York City in the mid ’80’s and having AC/DC or Queen rock the joint when Run Dmc, Kurtis Blow, The Fat Boys and Whodini had already been asked to perform. That’s crazy. Why wouldn’t there be a medley of Atlanta artists rocking the Super Bowl if you in fact influence everything? Take advantage of the opportunity. Don’t just party on the sideline. Use the platform to make a statement in support of eradicating racism, police brutality and social injustice. It was a complete missed opportunity.

And again, for what? Because you claim to be in support of Kaepernick? You didn’t boycott the Super Bowl bruh? You participated in it by kicking it and enjoying every bit of it. If you spent a dime in Atlanta last week you didn’t boycott the Super Bowl. If you showed up for the party you DID NOT boycott so you may as well had been on stage holding your city down like Big Boi did. Major shout to you playa and the coat was NUTS!!! Stop me when I start lyin’!
