Falcons cave in to rework Julio Jones’ contract as he agrees to report to camp! “CMB”

"Now that's what I'm talkin' about!"

With the Atlanta Falcons on the cusp of reporting to training camp on Thursday their front office did an about face on Julio Jones’ situation. In other words, they caved in. Earlier Wednesday they came to an agreement with the star wide receiver that they would, in fact, re-address his contract in 2019 to get the dun into camp.

Ole boy was talking about not reporting to camp if his contract wasn’t reworked even though he still had three years left his current deal. Back in 2015 he signed a five year extension worth $71 million with a $12 million signing bonus with $47 million guaranteed over the life of the contract. At the time he signed the contract it made him the highest paid receiver in the NFL.

Over the past two years Jones started looking around the league watching his highest paid contract drop because other cats were getting the bag too. In 2018 he’s scheduled to make $10.5 million which is nothing to sneeze at. However, that puts him at the 9th highest paid wide receiver in the league this year in terms of base salary.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! That’s why they always tell folks in Corporate America to never discuss salaries on the job. There’s always somebody making more bread than you doing the same exact job. So if you start snooping around you’ll find what you’re looking for and you’ll end up mad that you aren’t making what the next person is making.

I wrote a crazy Hot Joint on Wednesday entitled “Kick Rocks” where I explained how Falcons owner, Arthur Blank, said that he had no intentions in reworking Jones’ deal. Well playas…as they got closer to training camp and started looking around the roster they realized that they were in fact “CMB.” The Cash Money Brothers from the movie New Jack City. “We All We Got!”

Julio is the best skill player they have and they need every bit of him to be in camp on time. So I guess that’s the way love goes like Janet would say it. They even told him that they would get him some more bread this year on top of that $10.5 million he’s scheduled to make. It must be good to be so talented. Stop me when I start lyin’!
