GREENWOOD — The Center Grove Trojans are typically known as a powerhouse on the football field and winning state championships or at the very minimum competing for them is a normal occurrence. Well playas…the Trojan hoop team is alive, well and still breathing this week and it’s the Semi-State Round!!! WHAT??!!

For only the second time in school history they’ve won a regional championship (the first came in 1972). So boyz are standing on the roof excited about what Coach Zach Hahn and Co. has been able to do with this basketball team.

Let’s keep it real or all the way 100, whichever comes 1st! It’s not very often that you have a chance to have a McDonald’s All-American walking your halls so they’ve done an excellent job of striking while the iron was hot and not missing out of the opportunity to be a great TEAM. Tracy Jackson-Davis leads the Trojans into battle every night but they’ve got some soldiers that have been taking care of business all season as well.

Big shout to the homie and point guard Ben Nicoson for quarterbacking the offense all season. He’s been a true leader and without him this team wouldn’t have the focus that it took to be in the Semi-State round. Even though they’ve got a dominant force in Jackson-Davis they play well together as a team. Don’t forget about guys like Cam Petty, Ben Greller and Lucas Doyle. Without they’re ability to be great role players we wouldn’t be talking about these guys.

That’s why they’ve been able to post a 22-8 record and sprint through the sectional and regional rounds. They went down to Seymour last week and completely moved all of Big Momma’s furniture by blasting both Jasper and Bloomington South to advance to the Final Four.

Now they’ve got to face a familiar foe from the M.I.C. that they’ve already beaten by 11 points back in January, the Ben Davis Giants. As a matter of fact, they went on the road to BD and beat them 56-45. However, Ben Davis is a much better team today than they were in January but so is Center Grove. So in my Terrell Owens voice, “Get Ya Popcorn Ready” because Center Grove is READY!!! Stop me when I start lyin’!
