Big Ten Tournament Update: Maryland gets past Purdue to advance to the semifinal.

INDIANAPOLIS— No.1 seeded Maryland beat 9th seeded Purdue 74-62 in the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Women’s tournament Friday afternoon.

Purdue went on a 7-0 run going up 13-12 after the first media timeout. Maryland had 6 turnovers in that first quarter which allowed Purdue to hang around with 8 points off turnovers. Hardin hit a bank three-point basket with less than two seconds left in the quarter giving the Boilermakers momentum going into the second quarter. 

Maryland went on multiple scoring runs in the second quarter as they dominated the period with a half-court trap that forced 9 turnovers. Maryland had 28 percent from the field in the first half but had 21 offensive rebounds, 10 second chance points as they led by 8 points going into halftime. 

Both teams traded baskets coming out of the break. They went on a scoring drought for more than 3 minutes. Maryland was simply too much for Purdue. The Boilers trailed by as many as 20 in the second half, shooting 40 percent from the field and 16 percent from three point range.

The Terps shot 45 percent from the field in the second half and 37 percent from three. Maryland had four players record double- doubles as they push to Saturday’s semifinal game against Indiana at 6:30 EST.
