Preparing to taste some pre-season cooking in the M.I.C! “About that time!”

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. — On August 17th the Indiana high school football season kicks off with all the marbles on the table. I’ll be covering the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference better known as the M.I.C. with a few others sprinkled in the mix for your pleasure.

With Ben Davis, last year’s Class 6A State Championship, in rebuild mode after losing 53 seniors to graduation and their head coach Mike Kirschner to a new job at Mount Vernon the flood gates are open to all challengers. Let the rest of the M.I.C. tell it, it’s anybody’s championship to win.

We’ll find out this upcoming week what the rest of the conference has to say about what they’ve got coming into the 2018 season as I start pre-season interviews with all of the coaches and their teams. I’ll visit every one of the teams in the powerhouse conference to get a feel for what we can expect out of 2018.

Right off of the top Carmel, led by coach John Hebert, that finished 8-5 last season is a front runner to win the M.I.C. along with Jayson West’s Warren Central Warriors who finished 7-4 last year. Keep in mind that they have the incomparable David Bell still catching the rock. That’s a major problem for boyz.

Don’t sleep on Center Grove who finished 6-6 with the War Horse, Carson Steele, draggin’ boyz up and down the field as a freshman last year. Now he’s a year old and far more confident. That’s a problem with mild sauce on the side.

Pike surprised a lot of folks getting to their  Sectional championship game (losing to Fishers) and finishing with a winning record of 6-5 after going 0-10 the season before. Coach Jimmy Graves and Co. took a huge leap forward in 2017. Yeah playboy, it’s about to be Chris Brown up in this piece. “On and Poppin’!”

I can’t wait to get out to see what everyone has cooked up this off-season. In my Bart Scott voice, “Can’t wait!!”

Keep up with me all season long because it’s going to be even more fun than it was last year! And oh yeah, stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

2) Put it where the goats can get it: verb phrase – to make it as elementary as possible. To put it at ground level so everyone can understand it.

3) Ole boy: noun – the person that I’m currently talkin’ about.

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
