WEST SIDE — The Marion County Tournament resumed on Wednesday night with two west side schools meeting in the middle of the street. Pike from the northwest side rolled over to the far west side of town in the same Big Body Chevy they showed up in to beat Brebeuf on Tuesday night to see what Ben Davis was talking about in the quarterfinals. After 32 minutes of play the Red Devils walked out of the joint with some brand new sneakers and jewelry on after a 78-67 win.

Pike’s Ahmoni Jones got out of the ride shooting that thang and taking boyz to the rack. He finished with a game high 29 points scoring any kind of way he wanted to.

Ben Davis struggled getting out of the car with turnovers early which put them into a hole 15-6. They gathered their composure and made it a respectable end to the first quarter with Pike up 17-11.

The Red Devils opened the second quarter going on a 5-2 run to put crazy pressure on the Giants 22-13, Then all of a sudden Jalen Windham got hot and BD was only down 27-22. Windham was putting that thang in the air and it was falling. He finished the night with 24 points.

Unfortunately, Pike continued to keep it’s composure by continuing to answer as they got to the break up 38-31.

I don’t know what was said in those locker rooms at the half but neither of the defenses joined the teams during the first 3 minutes or so of the third quarter. It was a darn track meet. However, the spread remained the same with Pike up 8 points.

At the end of three the Red Devils were up 52-47 as Ben Davis made a push to make something happen. On some real talk, while Pike was hustling and keeping their heads in the game while Ben Davis was playing with a lot of frustration. Instead of playing the game down the stretch they complained about every call and it showed in their body language on the floor. It’s hard to win when you’re complaining.

As much as Jalen Windham worked to get BD back into it Pike continued to out hustle them. Dwand Jones eventually fouled out and that took the wind out of their sails down the stretch. Pike was the better team from start to finish getting sweet revenge from an earlier loss to Ben Davis this season. Up next Pike is headed to Southport on Friday to square up with the defending Class 6A state champs No.1 Warren Central.
