GREENWOOD, IN. — The Center Grove Trojans are much older, more confident, hungry and ready to kick off the 2018 football season. After a challengin’ 2017 campaign where they finished 6-6, Coach Eric Moore and Co. are excited about what he’s seen this offseason. With a truck load of senior leadership and the “War Horse,” sophomore running back sensation Carson Steele tottin’ the rock, the Trojans should be worth the price of admission and a side of chili fries with a large Mountain Dew.

Coach Moore says that he loves the vibe around this team when I spoke with him on Tuesday evenin’ after a great practice. He went on to say, “We got a lot of seniors and a good junior class and good senior leadership this year. This team likes each other and I like the vibe around them. I don’t know how talented we are and I really don’t care. I enjoy being around kids that like each other and want to play football together and let the wins and loses fall as they may.”  Here’s the entire interview:

When I asked him who else is he expectin’ big things out of this year besides the “War Horse” he stuck his chest out like a proud papa!! He’s looking for Lucas Hunter to show up and show out on their defensive front. He’s as talented as they come. The Trojans are also excited about their defensive secondary led by strong safety Lucas Roehling who’s a beast standin’ 6’2″ 185 lbs. coming down hill on a boy. Then there’s DB’s Matt Pence, Drew Green and Chris Martin holding it down.

Check out my interviews with Lucas Hunter and Chris Martin:

Coach Moore was so excited about so many guys I had to get him on video so that I wouldn’t miss anyone’s name!! Whenever a coach goes ham on namin’ players he’s proud of, you already know that they’re in for a helluva season. You can always tell the confidence of a team by the excitement in the coaches voice when you ask him about his players.

The offense will be led by the senior quarterback Jack Moore who’s says that the team goal is to win a state title. He says, “Personal goals really don’t mean a thing to our team. It’s all about the team…so I mean there were games that I threw two times…it doesn’t matter we won the game.” He goes on to say, “It doesn’t matter to me as long as we’re throwing touchdowns, Carson Steele is running touchdowns and Lucas Hunter is making sacks in the backfield…it’s all good.”

Now you know I couldn’t stop by Ray Skillman Stadium to see the Trojans without hollerin’ at the War Horse himself!!!  The super sophomore put up 1,700 yards as a freshman in the best conference in the state last year and is lookin’ to pick up where he left off. As a matter of fact, the dun was still runnin’!!! Check out my conversation with this talented kid:

Oh yeah playas, Center Grove has learned a lot from the 6 losses a year ago and their lookin’ to use that experience to become a much better ball club in 2018! They open the season with Warren Central rollin’ into town with the incomparable David Bell on August 17th. Talk about startin’ the season off with a bang! Two of the best teams in the M.I.C. squarin’ up on Day 1! In my Terrell Owens voice, “Get Ya popcorn ready!” And now you can stop me when I start lyin’!

Playas Thesaurus:

1) Dun: noun – the person in question, dude, guy, etc. It’s whoever I’m talkin’ about and its non-gender specific.

The G is excluded from the endings of all words because the G is near and dear to my heart because I’m from “The G” which is Gary, Indiana. So I only use the G when I’m talkin’ about “The G!”
